"I Can Only Imagine" & "Paul, Apostle of Christ" Are in the Top 10 at the Box Office
Faith-based films performed well at the box office this past weekend. It is rare to see two explicitly faith-based movies sitting in the top 10 as far as box office sales are concerned. For a second straight weekend, "I Can Only Imagine" captures the third spot again. "Paul, Apostle of Christ" landed in the eighth spot in its debut weekend, earning $5 million for Sony's Affirm Films.
"I Can Only Imagine" held strong in its second weekend in theaters, scoring a solid $13.8 million. That brings its total earnings to $38 million - an impressive performance for a film that only cost $7 million to create. Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen commented, "When we first saw this incredibly well-crafted, emotional and moving film, we jumped on the opportunity to work with the Erwins and their team and our partners at Lionsgate on I Can Only Imagine. And we were not disappointed."
Meanwhile, "Paul, Apostle of Christ" is the first feature film ever to tell the story of Paul the Apostle, with James Faulkner in the lead role as Paul, and Jim Cavaziel as Luke, who is performing his first Biblical role since playing Jesus in the award-winning 2004 film "The Passion of The Christ."
"Paul, Apostle of Christ" tells the story of the two men, Paul and his friend and physician Luke, the latter who is risking his life to visit Paul, held captive in Rome by Roman Emperor Neo who is determined to rid the empire of Christians, not hesitating to execute them in the grisliest and most humiliating ways possible.
