DC Church Developing Young Leaders Through Ministry Immersion Experience
Located in the nation's capital, National Community Church is known for its culturally rich, politically and socially diverse congregation and unifying, Christ-focused teaching. It is also known for serving other churches with worship and teaching resources and hands-on training for young leaders, including the NCC Protégé Program, a unique, year-long ministry immersion experience set to welcome new candidates this spring.
The Protégé Program is one of several educational opportunities available at NCC, which also offers a Church Planter-In-Residence program and a site-partnership with Lakeland, Florida's Southeastern University. Now in its 13th year, the Protégé Program provides mentorship and coaching from NCC staff as protégés participate in daily church activities and are immersed in church culture and the vibrant D.C. community. The goal is to help protégés grow personally and spiritually as they develop leadership skills in a collaborative, real-world environment while focusing on areas of interest including family ministries, creative communications, pastoral care and community/marketplace outreach.
"The NCC Protégé Program provides students with a purposeful, transformational gap year designed around character, community and calling," says Program Director Joel Buckner. "It's an opportunity to 'try out' ministry in a supportive setting... an opportunity to create, explore, question, succeed and even fail while building life-long friendships and leadership skills that will serve them wherever God leads."
Mark Batterson, NCC Pastor and New York Times bestselling author of "Win The Day," adds: "The Protégé Program is part of our commitment to train up emerging leaders to be catalysts of change in the Church, the marketplace and around the world. Previous protégés have launched student ministries, served as campus pastors and created church-wide discipleship initiatives during their time with us before going on to serve and impact their own congregations and communities."
The NCC Protégé Program, which has trained and deployed 80 students since its launch in 2008, is open to students under age 30. Interested candidates will find additional information and may apply for the 2021 program through March 31 at NCC.ProtegeProgram.
National Community Church is a multi-site church pastored by Mark Batterson that serves the extended metro Washington, D.C., area with Christ-centered teaching, fellowship and music that reflects the diverse population of the nation's capital. For more information, visit National Community Church.
