A Georgia community is grieving the loss of Jordan Alexander Jones, a 28-year-old security guard who is being remembered as a hero after he was fatally shot while trying to protect others during a violent altercation.
According to the Acworth Police Department, the incident happened around 2:42 a.m. on March 7 outside Saddle Bar in Acworth, Georgia. Authorities say Jones stepped in to break up a fight between a man and a woman when the situation suddenly turned deadly.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. Police immediately began providing aid until emergency responders arrived. He was transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators identified Daniel Di Vonne Parsons, 25, of Douglasville, Georgia, as the suspect in the shooting. Police say Parsons had been involved in the fight when Jones attempted to intervene. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot the security guard.
Parsons was later located nearby and taken into custody without incident. Authorities say he now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and aggravated murder. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center as the investigation continues.
Family members say Jones' actions reflected the type of person he had always been-someone willing to step in when others were in trouble.
His uncle, Edward Jones, told local reporters that Jordan was not someone who would simply stand by when something was wrong.
"He's not going to just watch something happen," Edward said, explaining that his nephew stepped in only to stop the situation and calm things down.
The management of Saddle Bar also praised Jones' courage in a statement shared after the tragedy. According to the venue, the security guard had successfully broken up the altercation and was walking away when he was shot from behind.
"He courageously intervened," the statement read. "He was a brave individual who put himself in harm's way to protect someone else."
The venue expressed its condolences to Jones' family and announced plans to support them during this difficult time, while also thanking first responders who arrived quickly at the scene.
In the days since the shooting, many in the community have been remembering Jones not just for how he died, but for the selfless decision he made in a moment of danger-stepping forward to help others rather than turning away.
Friends and loved ones are now asking for continued prayers for his family as they mourn the loss of a man widely remembered for his courage and compassion.
