Shailene Woodley's 'TFIOS' Leading Man Ansel Elgort Admits To World Of Warcraft Addiction Because Of 'Men, Women And Children'
Following his roles in hit movies "Divergent" and "The Fault In Our Stars" with Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort stars in "Men, Women And Children," which partly led him to World of Warcraft addiction.
In "Men, Women And Children," Elgort stars with Adam Sandler and "Gone Girl" star Ben Affleck's wife Jennifer Garner, who also stars in "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" with Steve Carell.
Elgort's character Tim Mooney is a high school football player whose parents' breakup led him to quit the team and resort to a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).
In order to prepare for the role, Elgort played a lot of World of Warcraft, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Nov. 23, according to Time.
He is already familiar with the game and a lot of his friends play it but he admitted to using his role in "Men, Women And Children" as "an excuse to get addicted to one of the most addicting video games in the world."
For him, his World of Warcraft addiction was "sick."
For a couple of months, Elgort got addicted to World of Warcraft leading up to the filming of "Men, Women And Children," which was screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.
"Just to feel what that's like, it really does suck you in and it makes you feel terrible after you've played the whole day and haven't done anything in real life," Elgort told Huffington Post,
The actor said it felt heavy to get addicted to World of Warcraft, whose subscribers were recently offered free Mists of Pandaria access by Blizzard Entertainment, according to Game Spot.
"When you're not playing, you feel like you want to be. But you know it's a waste of time. It's tough," he explained adding that he had a friend who worked for Yahoo! but was fired because he stopped showing up to work while played too much World of Warcraft.
Elgort said now he knows what it is like to have an addiction after he fortunately was able to stop playing the game upon the production of "Men, Women And Children," which also stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Garner.
