Bad Boys 3 news, release date, updates: New Bad Boys movie receives the green light, out in theaters by 2015

Bad Boys news: The iconic action-comedy film Bad Boys will have its third outing sometime in 2015 - this was confirmed by actor Martin Lawrence, who starred in the original alongside Will Smith.

Lawrence, who played Detective Marcus Burnett, was asked by talk show host Conan O'Brien about the rumors of a third Bad Boys installment. The comedian replied the affirmative.

"I believe so, yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday. He said it's real, they're working on the script, they're getting close - and it all looks good," said the 49-year-old Lawrence.

Prior to this confirmation, Lawrence had posted on his Facebook account his interest to do a new Bad Boys project, tagging Smith on the post.

The Facebook status generated a lot of positive comments from fans, which meant a Bad Boys reunion was very much welcome, after a 10-year hiatus from the big screen.

Smith played as Detective Mike Lowrey in the 1995 and 2003 releases. Both certified hits, Bad Boys 1 earned over $140 million in the box office, while Bad Boys 2 almost doubled that amount with $270 million.

Bad Boys 1 and 2 were directed by Michael Bay under the production management of Jerry Bruckheimer.

Bay will reportedly return to direct Bad Boys 3, from the screenplay written by Peter Craig and David Guggenheim.
