Jessica Reedy is Getting "Transparent"
First entering the spotlight in 2009 as runner up on BET's Sunday's Best to #1 on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums, and #43 on The Billboard 200 - Jessica Reedy is one of Gospel Music's fastest rising artists. Now on her own transitional record label, Purity Records, Reedy is preparing to release her new album "Transparent"on November 11.
Speaking to Jubileemag.com, Reedy has this to say about the new album: "It'll be titled Transparent and basically the songs are my heart. I wrote 10 out of the 12 songs and it's just a testament of my true emotions and my true feeling. I went through a lot in my process to get to this moment and one thing I thank God for is that He allowed me to go through it privately. He taught me a lot. I went through a lot of phases where I was down and nobody knew it. I was really questioning the reason for what I'm doing and why didn't this add up to this. All the while, it was just boot camp. God was just taking me through some spiritual journeys to strengthen me. The album is just a testament of what happened in my life. This album could be called so many things, but Transparent just seemed so much more appropriate."
Reedy received national exposure in 2009 as the runner up on Season 2 BET's Sunday Best with her signature deep vocal tone, the Saginaw, Michigan native, who went from singing at her grandfather's church as a child to stardom has never wavered from delivering a message of hope through music. "I am committed to being used as a vessel to inspire, uplift, and encourage," says Jessica. "I do not take my gift for granted, and I am so very grateful for every opportunity I am provided to share that God has a plan for your life and it does not include defeat."
Full of insecurities and much guilt after getting pregnant and dropping out of college and later finding herself on welfare, Jessica rededicated her life to Christ and began her spiritual journey to self discovery and a purposed driven life. Having been raised in a home where domestic violence was present and losing her father at the age of 12 to a fatal gun shot wound, Reedy was familiar with pain, but became determined to overcome as the victor in her and her son's life. She took a job at an automotive plant and later accepted a job as a technician for AT&T.
Always feeling like God had called her to do greater things, Reedy never fully accepted her new job as her career, and was later fired. The same day she was approached by a high school friend to audition for a new show on BET called Sunday Best. Initially she had denied the offer due to her work schedule and the fact that her former 1st soprano voice now produced a tenor toned, but she decided to drive her friends down to the audition and use the trip as a reflective time to figure out the direction of your life. Once at the audition, Jessica overcame her fears, sang "Running Back to You" and soon would be crowned the Runner-Up.
