According to Christian Today, the actor has been severally interviewed about the status of the fourth installment of Iron Man but he has always given varied answers in all those interviews which make it unclear whether the "Iron Man 4" is coming. In a recent interview with Variety, Downy Jr. said that the fourth "Iron Man" will not happen. He said, "There isn't one in the pipe."

The fans of RDJ who love to see him in the iron suit should not despair as there are reports saying that the iconic actor will also play his role in other Marvel produced movies including the upcoming "Captain America 3" movie. Although there are ongoing negotiations between Downey Jr. and Marvel studios and if the negotiations are finalized, reports say that "Iron Man" will be playing a big role in the rumored "Civil war" for the third installment of "Captain America" franchise.

There was an article posted on Movie Pilot which pointed out that "Captain America 3" will follow the civil war storyline. In the comic series, Tony Stark is given the responsibility to oversee the registration of all the superheroes for the new government-mandated superhero registration Act. Other superheroes, however, are not in favor of the new law and particularly Captain America's alter ego, Steve Rogers. This leads to a crash between Rogers and Tony Stark and ultimately between Iron Man and Captain America.

The article also said that Iron man's antagonist character in "Captain America 3" could be a perfect venue to retire the superhero from the Marvel Universe. Fans are hoping that Downey Jr. will still sign in for another film before he drops the iron man costumes.
