'The Babadook' Review: A Nightmarish Creature You Shouldn't Let in Your Home
Starring Essie Davis, Daniel Henshall, Noah Wiseman, Carmel John, Benjamin Winspear and Tiffany-Lyndall-Knight, "The Babadook" is an Australian Horror movie that has been praised by a lot of moviegoers and film critics alike. It has also been recognized as the best reviewed horror movie of the year.
Just like all psychological horror films, "The Babadook" also starts with a tragedy. The husband of Amelia died while he's driving her to the hospital to give birth to their only child, Sam. Since that day, Amelia has raised her son alone and never really celebrated his birthday.
In a "The Babadook" Review, it has been revealed that the movie spends time building this complicated complex situation as well as the fractures relationship between the child and the mother. Even after seven years of the incident, it is painfully evident that Amelia has not successfully moved on with their lives. The clothes and other possessions of her husband still lie preserved in their basement and what is even more unsettling is the kind of relationship she has with her son.
Although she is taking him to school, reading him bedtime stories and cooking him nutritious foods, he secretly cannot stand him.
The low-budget film, starring Essie Davis who plays the role of Amelia as being haunted by Babadook, has actually made a great splash overseas. It made a massive hit in France where it brought more money in just five days than it made during its whole theatrical run in Australia.
"The Babadook" is constructed artfully, with a reserved elegance that is evident throughout. Noah Wiseman who played the role of young Sam and the portrayal of Essie Davis as Amelia is impressive and truly outstanding.
"The Babadook" is a horror film that visibly brings inspiration as well as pays homage to a lot of works of horror from the last one-hundred years. The movie is stunningly made with great psychological depth. It is also a unique celebration of the school of horror that has been dormant for too long. With his black and white stained face as well as staccato movements, the Babadook himself is a creature you should not let in your home.
