Singer/Songwriter Matt Price Talks About His New Single "Our Great Healer" & His Forthcoming Album
For Singer/Songwriter, Matt Price, there is nothing that makes him more alive than creating music. Citing Michael W. Smith and Billy Joel as his influences, over the past year, he has worked on fine tuning his writing skills, working with esteemed CCM veteran Cindy Wilt Colville (Jason Ingram, Building 429, Matthew West). He has also had the opportunity to play keys for artists such as Newsong and Francesca Battistelli. In September of 2013, he released his debut EP entitled "We Won't Waver".
On October 21st, Matt released his new single, "Our Great Healer." We are very honored to be able to connect with Matt for this exclusive Hallels' interview.
Hallels: Thank you so much for your time Matt. For our readers who may not be familiar with our music, can you briefly tell us a little about yourself?
Sure! I'm a singer/songwriter and producer from Nashville, TN. I started singing at the age of three, and took piano lessons growing up. I started writing songs in high school and throughout college. It's a deep passion.
Hallels: How would you describe your style of music?
I would say that I'm a mix between Brandon Heath, Newsboys, and The Afters-pop with a worship flare
Hallels: Congratulations on the release of your brand new single "Our Greater Healer," what's the song about?
Thanks! One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 61:1, which says "I have come to heal the broken hearted and set the captives free". If you look at the miracles of Jesus, you'll see this theme over and over again; the deaf hear, the blind see, and the dead come back to life. Our God is a God of healing and restoration. He comes for the broken places in our lives, and we wants to heal us. It's stunningly beautiful.
Hallels: And what's the inspiration behind this song?
About a year ago, I had the opportunity to attend a writer's retreat. At the retreat, I received news about a dear friend and mentor who had been diagnosed with cancer. It really weighed heavy on my heart the entire weekend, and I just kept thinking about it and praying. On the last writing session, myself and two other writers-Ed Stivers and Donna Norton-sat down had the most amazing session. God showed up in a mighty way, and Our Great Healer was born. It's such a powerful song, and I had no idea just how much it would resonate and become a part of my daily life.
Hallels: Are you following up with a full length album?
I am following up another album. I haven't decided on the length yet, but I'm excited to get back in the studio. I'm hoping for a tentative release date of Spring/Summer 2015.
Hallels: If you are, what direction would the album be? Will it be a worship album?
It will definitely have worship elements. I'm currently in the process of writing for the record, so we will see!
Hallels: For our readers who may like to purchase the new single or/and find out more about you, where can they go?
They can go to www.mattpriceonline.com for more information. Thanks so much for your time!
