LG G Watch R vs. Moto 360 Latest News: A Comprehensive Review and Comparison of Features, Specs, Display, Price, Hardware
It is well known that smartphone manufacturers are widening their innovations with wearables now. In 2014, tech consumers experienced a year of surprises, as technological advancements brought forward a new era that includes smartwatches. The wearable trend is gaining popularity, as manufacturers are taking the initiative to promote an attractive product to a wide range of consumers. The recent analysis of the smartwatch market indicates that the LG G Watch R and Moto 360 models are strong competitors.
The design of both watches includes a round-edge shape, but only the Moto 360 body is manufactured from brushed stainless steel. A leather strap is the default option for both, but gray and stone options are also available to choose from.
The LG G Watch R features a power button on the right of the body, which makes it different from other designs. Additionally, the front-facing look and numbered bezel are iconic LG features that will please those who are passionate about the brand.
The display of the Moto 360 includes a 1.56-inch screen with a 320x290-pixel resolution—the pixel density is impressive, with a sharp display consisting of 205 pixels-per-inch within a LCD-type display. For protection, the display glass is made from Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 material, which is flexible, but can resist deep scratches that typically weaken glass.
On the other side, the LG G Watch R consists of a 1.3-inch display size, with a 320x330-pixel resolution. Although the LG designers have used an OLED display, the Moto 360 is clearly superior in the display stakes, with a bigger size and better resolution.
Both watches are smartly configured with excellent hardware specifications. The Moto 360 is powered by a TI OMAP 3 processor, while 4GB of storage capacity and a 512MB RAM slot are further enhancements. Meanwhile, in addition to the storage capacity and RAM slot provided by the Moto 360, the LG G Watch R is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 processor that is known for its high-end user experience. The operating system allocated to both watches is Android Wear, but the compatibility settings mean that corresponding smartphones need to be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, or a later version.
The Moto 360 runs on a 320mAh battery capacity that provides at least 20 hours of backup. The rival LG G Watch R leads the battery segment, with a 410mAh battery backup that lasts longer than the Moto 360. Furthermore, the battery life of the LG G Watch R can be extended by disabling the heart-rate monitor.
Finally, a significant cost difference separates the two models: the price tag for the LG G Watch R is around US$328, while consumers can take home the Moto 360 for consideraby less, with a price tag of US$260.
