'Boardwalk Empire Season 5' - An Epic Ending for a Period Drama: 'Boardwalk Empire Season 5' Ends with Nucky's Death; HBO Series Finale Bows Down with High Ratings
After five successful seasons, HBO's Emmy award winning series had its finale that engrosses the show's avid viewers and concluded the story's main premise. "Boardwalk Empire" ended its last season with Nucky Thompson's confronting his unavoidable fate, Independent reported.
The period crime drama set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition period, officially closed the franchise with Nucky's death. "Boardwalk Empire" "emperor" is based on the life of Enoch L. Johnson who is a prominent political figure during the 1920s and 1930s.
Nucky's death fulfilled his own prophecy in the show about Tommy Darmody. It was Tommy who shot Steve Buscemi's character thrice on El Dorado's boardwalk. It can be recalled that after Nucky killed Tommy's father, Jimmy, he then said to young Tommy that, "You're going to be a big man in this city one day."
Among the debts that Nucky paid, his life has been the payment for his obligation to Tommy. The young man, like his father Jimmy, worked with the politician. Little did Nucky know that Tommy is a predator that patiently waits for the perfect time to attack and get even with Nucky.
Before he went out of Atlantic City, the politician has collected his belongings and ironed out his affairs especially with Margaret Thompson, International Business Times reported. Margaret was trained by Nucky in terms of having confidence and the guts to depend on her own decision.
In "Boardwalk Empire Season 5," Nucky's imparted knowledge to Margaret was seen, as the latter convinced Joseph Kennedy in risking and investing in stock market. The advice then appeared to be a good one as Joseph, and even Margaret and Nucky, was able to earn money with the trade. Because of this, Margaret is now independent in both attitude and financial aspect before Nucky left.
The "Boardwalk Empire" main character also visited his brother Eli and Gillian Darmody. Nucky gave the two some money and advice before he left. This is said to be his way of ironing out his debts and ties before he finally faced his death.
Aside from Nucky, Dr. Narcisse also died in "Boardwalk Season 5" Finale. His death was brought by Lucky Luciano's hire gun man. The two old mob men's death opened the chance for the younger generation to create their own history in Atlantic City.
"Boardwalk Empire Season 5" has been the ending that fans have predicted and it is said to give a rightful closing to an epic drama series. Because of this, HBO's show bowed down with soaring ratings, Deadline reported. The franchise's last episode was viewed by an estimated 2.3 million audience. This number is a 7 percent boost compared to season 4's finale.
