Samsung's Find My Mobile App Vulnerability Can Lure Hackers to Interfere With Samsung Phones
Phone hackers are the worst nightmares one could have right now and there have been numerous celebrities and non-celebrity alike that were victims of phone hacking.
Recently, a security researcher had discovered a loose thread in the "Find My Phone" app by Samsung, which can lure hackers to obstruct with phones over the internet.
It seems that Mohamed Baset found out that "Samsung doesn't properly check where requests to Find My Mobile come from," according to Business Insider. In a nutshell, hackers can impersonate owner of the devices and obliterate the account.
The Samsung Find My Mobile is an application that tracks down devices and lock or erase data when stolen.
Once hackers interfere with the phone, "they can display a customized message on the phone screen, or find the phone's most recent location on a map. A hacker who attacked someone through the service could also force phones to ring on full volume for a minute, or even erase all data on the phone."
Samsung had acknowledged the security risk and had claimed that they have sorted out the issue on October 13 by releasing a security patch.
Baset had even posted a youtube video on how easy it is to hack Samsung Phones via the Find My Mobile Application.
Also recently, the National Institute of Standards and Technology had issued a statement about the hack: "The Remote Controls feature on Samsung mobile devices does not validate the source of lock-code data received over a network, which makes it easier for remote attackers to cause a denial of service (screen locking with an arbitrary code) by triggering unexpected Find My Mobile network traffic."
According to a report by Computer World, the app was given a 7.8 seriousness scale which means that this is damaging to a lot of Samsung users.
