Find Out What Northern Ireland's Revelation Thinks About Christmas
Revelation is a Gospel harmony trio from Northern Ireland whose desire, through song and testimony is to see many precious souls won for Christ before the great and imminent day of his return.
Revelation was born out of a vision that two young men, David Strange and Thomas McCalmont, shared - a vision to reach out to the youth of today through a ministry of gospel music and testimony.
After much prayer, seeking God's will, that vision became a reality when the Lord brought along a third young man called Andrew Calderwood who had just recently been converted from a life of drugs and alcohol abuse.
Andy, David and Tom are all born again believers in Jesus Christ and have been privileged to share His message in song through concerts, recordings, radio, television, and various other media outlets made available to them. We hope you come to appreciate the God we serve, for He can intervene in our lives when it seems all hope is gone. Our aim is to communicate through music the mission and purpose of the Master's Servants. That purpose is to spread the message of God's love to as much of the world as we can reach.
They have just released their brand new album "Christ for Me." We are honored to be able to catch up with them for this Christmas interview.
Hallels: Thanks so much for doing this Christmas interview with us. As we approach Christmas, how do you normally celebrate Christmas?
Rev: "Thank you for the invitation" Revelation, like many groups, has quite a busy schedule in the build up to Christmas! Our last singing will be the 21st December for the year, in a very homely venue in a local Community Centre, which is home to "New Dawn Evangelical Fellowship" In a Christmas Special, excited about that! All the guys are family orientated, and love Christmas! After a busy year I think we will appreciate the rest, and the break, and all the trimmings that go along with it! And very grateful to consider the CHRIST of CHRISTmas, which for us, is central! Jesus is reason for the season!
Hallels: As a group when you guys do a show around the Christmas time, do you incorporate Christmas songs into your set?
Rev: We love to sing Christmas songs! The problem sometimes is, that you only get to sing them once a year, yet we love to sing "Mary did you know", New star shining", "Greatest Story Ever Told", we also sing a couple of songs, for possibly children, like "The Friendly Beasts" and "Five little Fingers" a song with so much truth, it begins by saying, "There was no room, within the Inn, When they came to Bethlehem" and it goes on to say, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5 little fingers on his hand, Son of God, Marys little Lamb, my Hearts in the Five little fingers of his hand" Powerful lyric, simple, but what truth, our Savior is born, Son of God!!
Hallels: What are your favorite Christmas songs? If you have to pick two, which would they be? And why?
Rev: Hmmmmm, this for me is easy! I can share my favourite as one! "Oh Holy Night" for me this song has never been the same since I heard David Phelps sing it at a Gathier event, with Antony Burger playing piano for him! Truly an unbelievable performance, the song sets a platform, as we consider our Savior birthed in a manger, truly transports us in our minds eye, to this town called Bethlehem, and consider all that's taking place that night! David may agree with this, yet our third member (Andrew) who by the way is a real character, He would probably say "Jingle Bells" It's so far off the chart, it's what we've come to expect from Andrew! Yet, in 2005, Andrew met Christ in the most unusual way than any of us! Dead set against the Gospel, God began to speak to him, soon after he attended a "Christianity Explored" course, God delivered him from a life of Drug abuse and alcohol abuse! Saved him and delivered him!! He may be the character of Revelation, but he knows what it is he has been delivered from this Christmas!
Hallels: Coming from North Ireland, how's the celebration of Christmas different from North America?
Rev: I actually believe in many ways, nowadays it is much the same! Lights and trees up in houses all over the province, and the hustle and bustle of shoppers in busy shopping centres, Hearing Christmas Carols and people getting into the spirit of Christmas! I've not yet had the joy to experience a Christmas in America, I'd love to be able to, so that I'd know exactly if the differences are at all relevant!
Hallels: Do you guys on planning to release a Christmas album any time in the future?
Rev: It has been discussed on several occasions, as yet we have not advanced further to speak to our producer Jeff Collins in this regard! But maybe one day soon!!!
Hallels: Speaking of Christmas, what does Christmas mean to you personally?
Rev: As it is me responding here, (Thomas) I can honestly say, it can be a sad time, as a close family, my only brother and I, grew up very close, as we both got married, and had families of our own, we were even closer, our kids where similar ages, my wife was very close to his wife, as her family had emigrated to Canada, My brother's wife was called Rhonda, she passed away in 2009 at Christmas time, due to a long fight with cancer, so I have to say when I consider this time of year....... It makes me very thankful, Rhonda knew our saviour Jesus personally! And now resides in Heaven! To all the families reading this, I say a special prayer for you all, asking God for a special touch upon you and you family.
Hallels: Where can our readers find out more about you, your shows and your new album "Christ for Me"?
