Hopsin Loses Faith in God, Quits the Music Business and is Moving to Australia
Marcus Jamal Hopson, better known by his stage name Hopsin, is a rapper, record producer, director and actor from Los Angeles, California. In 2007, he was signed to Ruthless Records, and has since founded his own record label, Funk Volume, in 2009. Hopsin has released three studio albums and he is well known for his use of white colored eye contacts in music videos, performances, and interviews. Though he has professed to believe in God in 2012, now he has changed his mind.
In a song that Hopsin released this summer, "Ill Mind of Hopsin 7," Hopsin explained that "I'd lost faith" and that he couldn't see that light he saw in 2012 anymore and had started questioning everything around him. In his monologue directed at God, Hopsin said:
Send your condolences, this is me reaching to You so don't forget
If hell is truly your pit of fire and I get thrown in it
I'mma probably regret the fact that I ever wrote this [expletive]
My gut feeling says it's all fake
I hate to say it but [expletive] it, [expletive] I'd lost faith
This isn't a small phase, my perspective's all changed
My thoughts just keep picking [expletive] apart all day
And in my mind I make perfect sense.
But not only has he lost his faith, Hopsin also announced that he's leaving the music industry and is moving to Australia.
"I just wanted to take time out to say I appreciate all of u who have supported my music over these past few years. A Lot of u have told me stories about how I have changed your life. You too have changed mine in ways that u can never imagine. Unfortunately, tonight is the night that I am actually moving away to Australia," noted Hopsin, 28, whose real name is Marcus Jamal Hopson, in a Facebook post to his nearly 2.5 million fans. He also shared the announcement on his other social media accounts, such as Instagram.
"Over the past couple years I have come to [the] conclusion that this profession just isn't for me, so im going to venture out into new areas of life. I will always be an MC at heart, but this rap stuff just isn't for me. I hope You guys can respect it. I've signed over my half of the funk volume label to my business partner Dame. I also wished Swizzz, Dizzy Wright and Jarren Benton good luck in their careers. Thank u all! I'm out," he ended.
While many of his fans wished him, well a significant number hoped out loud that the announced is some kind of joke or publicity stunt.
