Scott McCreedy's Grandfather Passed Away
American Idol alum and country music star Scott McCreedy laments the loss of his grandfather, Bill McCreedy, who passed away on January 11. The senior McCreery had just celebrated his 86th birthday on Jan. 9, according to a Facebook post by his grandson.
Scott writes on his facebook: "I am sad to share my Granddad, Bill McCreery, passed away unexpectedly last Sunday. He had celebrated his 86th birthday just two days earlier. My Granddad was a hard worker who spent 20 years in the US Air Force Strategic Air Command and 10 more years working for the US Civil Service at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. He lived life to the fullest, was good-natured and had a hearty laugh. He was totally devoted to my Grandmother Paquita for 57 years. Together, they raised three children and were inspirations for their six grandchildren. He was one amazing guy who drove a black mustang convertible and could still dive off his diving board in his backyard pool. As his only grandson, it will be an honor to carry on the family name. Thank you Granddad for everything, but especially the lessons on love and respect, the golf and diving lessons AND that McCreery deep voice."
Bill McCreery was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. He met his wife while stationed in Puerto Rico; she is a native of San Juan.
Scotty McCreery has started work on his next album, and he says he's planning for a more classic country sound. "We just had the meeting with the label, and the album is a go," McCreery tells Rolling Stone Country. "And I'm going to make a country music record. That's what I had to try to convey to the label, and they were all for it. The stuff I grew up with was that kind of music - I want to have some depth and portray a different side."
