Darin and Brooke Aldridge Give Us Snapshots of Their New Album & Their Faith
Husband and wife duo Darin and Brooke Aldridge have just released their brand new sixth album "Snapshots." This rising duo of young newlyweds sings and plays a rich combination of bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and country duets. Their rich harmonies are supported by a first rate band. We are so honored to catch up with the couple for this exclusive Hallels' interview.
Hallels: Congratulations on the release of "Snapshots." Why did you entitle this new record as "Snapshots"?
Darin:
Thank you! We've been very excited about the release of Snapshots. We chose the title because we wanted this album to capture bits and pieces of our lives, moments in time ... sort of like framed "snapshots" that adorn the top of an old piano. Snapshots includes songs that showcase bands we've always admired or been a part of, songs we've either written or just always loved, songs we grew up hearing on the radio, and songs folks have passed along to us that have helped them through difficult times in their lives. With Snapshots we hope to take listeners back to a place and time, back when, like looking through a photo album of memories.
Hallels: I love it the way you have added your bluegrass touch to some of the country songs especially your take of Rosanne Cash's #1 "Tennessee Flat Top Box." What inspired you to tackle this song?
Brooke:
I'm thrilled that you like our arrangement of "Tennessee Flat Top Box!" I have loved this song since I was a child. I remember hearing it on the radio and a smile would always come to my face. Something about the tune and the way the guitar was played always brought great memories flooding back. Johnny Cash and Roseanne both had great versions and when Darin and I first met, we got to talking about songs we loved or that stood out vividly in our minds and this was one I always brought up instantly!
Hallels: And what was the inspiration behind covering "Let It Be Me"?
Brooke:
Who doesn't light up when they hear an Everly Brother's Tune? I remember driving down the road after hearing about the passing of Phil Everly in 2014. As the DJ was talking about Phil's passing and the amazing career the Everly's had, Darin and I both looked at each other with that same look we often do when we agree on the same things. :-)
The DJ then went on to say "Let It Be Me" had always been a favorite Everly Brother's Tune of his. Darin and I agreed we should cut it at some point ourselves. It so closely reflects our own relationship and it means a lot to me.
Darin:
I remember this song from my childhood because my mom had the Everly's records and would often play them around the house. Like most folks, Brooke and I have always loved their music and how it brings back so many great memories for people everywhere. Songs like this are just part of our culture and experience.
Hallels: Have you released a single off this new album yet? Tell us more about the single.
Brooke:
We did release "Get Up John" back in November before the album came out. It was written as an instrumental by Bill Monroe in the 50's. At that time no words had been written for it. In the 80's Marty Stuart and Jerry Sullivan wrote words for the song. Emmylou Harris later recorded Marty and Jerry's version and that's the one I fell in love with because I'm a huge Emmylou Harris fan. I really love the story that was created by adding lyrics.
Hallels: I also love it that there are many songs here that examine faith, heaven and the purpose of our existence. Tell us a little about your faith.
Brooke:
Darin and I both grew up singing in church and just being very involved with families that always took us to church and made faith a part of life. Both of our foundations were built on God, staying grounded in Him and letting Him lead our paths. We know that without God's grace, we wouldn't have our talents or the blessing of this marriage that we treasure. It's always been very important to us to portray positive, uplifting messages with our marriage, our life and music. That's what we've tried to do from the get-go. So, to be able to do that definitely represents what Darin and I stand for as artists and through our marriage and how we want to inspire and uplift people.
Hallels: Are you guys currently touring in support of this album? During your live shows, will you be singing some of the new songs?
Darin
We are currently touring and if you catch us at a show near your home, you will definitely be able to hear "Snapshots" live and in person!
