Born Again Christian Clark Beckham is One of the Two Finalist on "American Idol"
This year's "American Idol" has come down to its final two contestant. And born-again Christian Clark Beckham is among the final two. If he wins, the "American Idol" trophy, it will be Beckham's biggest birthday present. Beckham turns 23 two days after the season's finale on May 15th.
Here's Billboard's take on why Beckham should win: "Don't discount the fact that Beckham scores full marks on the likability scale. Even when he said on one episode that he "desperately wants to win," he didn't come off as desperate or egotistic. One week during a backstage conversation, Beckham said to me, "I hope this doesn't come off as cocky..." and I wanted to assure him that was not a problem he had to worry about. Being likable is a huge advantage when people are voting for you. Just ask past likable winners like David Cook, Kris Allen and Scotty McCreery."
Both Beckham and Nick Fradiani made it to the final two. Each of them performed three songs during the night. Beckham's first performance was a reprisal of his "Georgia On My Mind" rendition and his second selection was "Ain't No Sunshine," as chosen by executive producer Simon Fuller.
The final song he performed was "Champion," an original song that will become his single if he wins the show tomorrow night.
Beckham, 22, is deeply rooted in his faith as a graduate of the Christian college Lee University and underwent a life changing experience being touched by the Holy Ghost. Now that he has made it into the top five of the coveted American Idol competition, the singer-songwriter and musician has showcased his range as somebody who can fit into multiple genres.
Speaking to "Christian Post," Beckham does confess his struggle of not wanting to just sing Christian songs. "I know through a lot of confusing years and prayer trying to figure things out, a lot of people said 'you're a Christian and you do music that means you sing Christian contemporary music.' You lead worship," Beckham told CP. "But I don't think God wants us to be isolated. I don't think He wants such a distinct wall between church and secular."
"I want to write songs and sing songs about this world, about people, about this life that God has created through redeemed eyes. That's what I want to do," Beckham said. "I think He created music, and I think He likes good music. I don't think we should be separated, I think we should go out into all of the world even musically."
