Daniel George Shares with Hallels His Journey and His Music
Singer and songwriter Daniel George was raised as a Christian in the Lutheran faith on Long Island, in a suburb just outside of New York City. He now resides in Westchester, NY with his wife and two children. His parents instilled in him a strong faith in God and the values that go along with being a Christian. His Mom went to be with God in 2001 at the young age of 60. In the weeks and days before she passed she kept a strong faith in God and told everyone that she was not afraid, that she would soon be in paradise with Christ.
George is currently involved in a music program for Cursillo and has led the music ministry on many weekends. The main goal of Cursillo is to bring all to Christ, to help renew and deepen ones Christian commitment, and to help people understand and embrace their individual calling.
Hallels: Thanks so much for doing this interview with us. Can you tell our readers a little about yourself? Tell us a little about your journey with Jesus Christ. How did that start?
Thank you for inviting me! I was very fortunate to grow up in a Christian family with a strong faith in God and the values that go along with that. When my Mom went to be with God in 2001, my faith became much stronger because of her incredible outlook and faith. In the weeks and days before she passed I was able to have long conversations with her. She told me and everyone around her, that she was not afraid, that she would soon be in paradise with Christ. This really stuck with me and helped propel a whole new level of faith within me. I knew it was time to step up my commitment to God.
In that same year I was in New York City during the 911 attacks. In fact, I was standing on Fifth Ave., right under the Empire State building when the planes hit the towers. I could see the fire and smoke from where I stood. People were screaming to take cover that the Empire State building was next! I knew people in the World Trade Towers, some who made it out and some who did not. It was a day that changed my life forever.
In the months and years that followed, I found a deeper connection with God than I had ever had before. I started writing songs for the first time in my life, deep spiritual songs of hope. These songs turned into my first album, called Hope.
Hallels: How would you describe your style of music?
Contemporary Christian Rock is the main genre. Within this genre are worship songs, songs about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and other Christian themes.
Hallels: You have already released three albums, how did all of this start? Do you normally write all your own music?
Yes, I write and sing all of my own songs. I started writing as a way to give myself hope, peace and joy after the life changing events I mentioned earlier. As I continued to write, I realized that my music and lyrics could help others find comfort, hope and joy. So I recorded and released three albums; Hope, Rising and Harmony. These three albums are a progression in personal growth and growing closer to God. With the hope that God gives, you can rise up, help others to find hope, and live in harmony with God, yourself, and everyone that touches your life.
Hallels: Currently you have just released a new single "Faith on Fire," what is the song about? What was the inspiration behind this song?
Faith on Fire is an uplifting Contemporary Christian song that tells of how Gods love can ignite and fan the flame of faith into a blaze that will change your life.
I have had my own faith ups and downs throughout my life, but there was always that little spark inside that told me God was there, whenever I was ready to come back to His arms. No matter how bad life got or how far I drifted from His love, He never left my heart completely.
Faith On Fire is a song about that journey, my hope is that it inspires everyone to grow their fire for God.
Hallels: Are you currently working on your fourth album? What can we expect from this forthcoming album?
I am very excited about my next album! It is a wonderful God inspired collection of Contemporary Christian songs. The name of the album is Christian Roots and will be available at the end of this summer. My two latest released singles, "Faith On Fire" and "Raise Me Up" will be included on the album.
Hallels: When you are not performing, what kind of music do you listen to? Who are your favourite singers?
I really love all types of music, but I especially love to listen to Christian songs of all kinds. They give me inspiration in my life, and with my own songwriting. As far as favorite singers go, there are so many great ones it's hard to list. A couple that come to mind though, are Kari Jobe and Chris Tomlin.
Hallels: Are you currently touring? Where can our readers find out more about your live shows or/and new music?
I have no plans to tour in the immediate future. I currently only perform at benefits and Christian retreats. However, I would like to tour and bring Gods music to everyone who wants or needs to hear it. I pray on this often, and I know that when it is right God will show me the way.
