Our Exclusive Interview with Gospel Music Artist Jessica Love
One of Gospel music's most talented new artist is Jessica Love. Known for her passionate love for Jesus over her catchy R&B hip hop tunes, Love has just released her new single "I Draw Near." We are privileged to catch up with her for this exclusive interview:
Hallels: Jessica thanks for doing this interview with us. Can you tell our readers a little more about your background, such as how did you come to know Christ and end up singing for Him?
Sure I can remember at a young age having this sense of God and a big love for Him in my heart. I grew up in catholic school and at that time considered being a nun for a very short period of time. I knew I loved God and I just wanted to serve him. I wanted to love people. In high school I got saved at a youth ministry and from there began leading praise and worship. There's alot more to the story! But, Growing up and transitioning to the corporate world...I knew in my heart I had this passion to write, sing and worship. But, this recent stint of success. I literally fell into. God opened doors I wasn't even knocking on.
Hallels: I love how you have introduced yourself over your social media as "just a nobody who wants you to experience Christ's love." How do you think God has equipped you to share Christ's love with others?
You know, God is the message. He's the main event. When I say just a nobody it's my way of saying "put the attention on Jesus". I did not get myself here. I did not promote myself. I could have never began writing this story of my life that's full of love, redemption, forgiveness and mercy. My point is every great story that I could ever even tell about my life begins and ends with Jesus. Just a clay jar, vessel a messenger. His power is the driving force.
Hallels: How would you describe your style of music? Who are some of your musical heroes?
Haha here's where it gets funny. I grew up in the 90s in a very diverse town. Of course at a young age I jammed to the motown and beetles that my parents played. I hear so many greats tell the stories of studying the amazing Stevie Wonder or Gladys Knight (whom both I love). But the truth is growing up I spent hours in my room as a kid learning to sing with NSYNC and Brittany Spears. My taste in music leans mostly toward rock, alternative rock and classical music, but I love a great Gospel song or R & B Record too! My style? Whew, I write everything from country music to neo soul. What you'll hear from me is Poppy Rock that gets soulful and hip-hopish at times. My current single leans more a Gospel edge but I have some stuff up my sleeve for you. Oh yes and growing up I adored Michael Jackson and the sound of my mama singing me lullabies!
Hallels: Congratulations on the release of your new single "I Draw Near." What is the song about?
I draw near is a prophetic song that came from Psalm 73. Quite a while ago my composer and I were worshiping and as he played I asked him his favorite scripture. He said Psalm 73 and I asked him to play the sound of it. Within a few minutes I draw near was complete. A few days later my producer Jamel Kimbrough played it for Todd and Todd gracefully added his amazingness to it! This was a long time ago. We meant it to be maybe an interlude and never intended for it to go this far, we honestly didn't even think it would make the album let alone be the first single!
Hallels: Are you currently working on your album now? Who are you working with for your album? When do you think it'll be released?
Yes! I am working with Jamel Kimbrough and Israel Martin! Stay tuned for something very diverse! A new single VERY soon and the album in Fall or Winter. I wish I could release it tomorrow!
Hallels: On your website I see that you are launching a movement called "The Road to Freedom." Tell us more about this.
I should be calling it the "Journey to Lord Please Help Me!". Lol. It's going to show a live faith walk. A person trying to hear the voice of God and obey and documenting that journey. I believe I got a word to pack up and leave and join this movement of young adults in Louisiana who throw revivals. The only issue is, my life is GREAT here and it seemingly makes no sense. What you're going to see here is a real person just TRYING, just believing. You'll see my mistakes, you'll see when I'm wrong and you will celebrate victories with me. I want to encourage people to obey God and listen and see that even if I did hear wrong...God will STILL be faithful. This isn't me saying hey...be irresponsible...quit your job...run up bills and call it faith. This is my journey. But what I want to inspire people to do is to get in the presence of God and walk faithfully, orderly and lovingly in their call. Pray for me!
Hallels: For our readers who would like to find out more about you or purchase your music, where can they go?
