Hallels: Anthony, so grateful you can do this interview with us. Tell us a little about your background, how did the Lord called you to sing for Him?
Anthony Faulkner: It is truly a pleasure to speak with you. I was raised in Los Angeles, California, and I always knew there was much more to life than what my upbringing showed me. My family is large and God gave me some Guardian Angels to help guide me. As a child I was very perceptive and believed in the unseen.
Hallels: You have also worked closely with the legendary Angela Winbush. How did that happened?
Anthony Faulkner: A'ngela Winbush went to my church and one day she walked up to me and said, "Hi my name is Sister A'ngela, what is your name?" She then asked, "Did I like Music?" It seemed as though a halo was over her head every time I saw her. Our church was very large and out of all the people she was the only one I saw clearly. After being intrigued with music, I went to school and started playing saxophone, then piano. Without much success with both one day I was changing the television channels and stopped at the Soul Train Award Show commercial. (I was raised in a strict home so watching this was not suppose to happen.) To my surprise she appeared on the television and I begin to yell to my mom, "MOMMY, THAT IS THE LADY WHO HAS BEEN TELLING ME TO DO THIS MUSIC STUFF!" I was able to watch the show because A'ngela went to the church. (LOL) Once I heard her sing her tribute to Gladys Knight, (and also the guy who was always with her was singing too) I knew I wanted to sing. The guy with her was Legendary Music Icon Ronald Isley of The Isley Brothers. I w grew up with them in my life and received the fundamentals of music from them all. A'ngela's direct contact and influence taught me how to sing, write, arrange, and produce my songs.
Hallels: You have quite an international presence, having toured 4 continents. After seeing so much of the world, what are you most encouraged about what God is doing in the world?
Anthony Faulkner: I am most encouraged that God is the same on EVERY CONTINENT!!! Although there are many cultural differences, we can all come together collectively to worship our Lord and Savior. The world is so HUGE and the various landscapes prove that the world did not just HAPPEN!! There is a God!! There is so much negative in the world and it feels good to be able to go to some of the places media has portrayed as a "NO GO DESTINATION ZONE", and see the beauty of the world and experience the cultural differences!! We truly serve a God that has created so many unique beings and scenery.
Hallels: Let's talk about your new single "I Trust You." What is the song about?
Anthony Faulkner: When I wrote "I TRUST YOU" I was going through a transition of relocating. God had given me my transfer papers and I was just waiting on the door to open to know exactly where I was relocating too. I wanted to move to either New York or Atlanta, but God's plans were Houston, TX. I was walking away from the singing and acting (SAG/AFTRA) resume I had built while in Los Angeles. I knew that bigger and better awaited me and I had to step out on FAITH and follow my spirit. I had no idea where my next dime was going to come from, or which direction my career & Ministry was going to take. I ended up going back to school at University of Houston where I earned my Bachelors in Accounting Degree.
Hallels: Are you working on a new album now? Who are you working for your new album? And when do you think it will be released?
Anthony Faulkner: I am excited to announce I am finishing up my sophomore project entitled "GUARDIAN ANGEL"! I wrote and arranged all the songs and I have worked with some amazing producers. The production team Drop Squad produced a few tracks including the hit song "Closer" featuring Music Legend A'ngela Winbush. My first single "I Trust You" was produced by Phil Moore and William Lott III. My next single "LET IT ALL GO" Featuring Nikki Potts from the Kurt Carr Singers was produced by myself and co-produced by William B Smith II. In regards to additional special guest..... I have added a few of my friends from around the globe on the project. My Friend Fabio Carry from Milan, Italy, Cooper Ssalli and G-Way from Uganda, Kambua Mathu from Kenya, and Juliani from Kenya.
Hallels: You sing about trusting God even in the most difficult circumstances on your new single, can you relate an incident in your own life where you have trusted God over a difficult time?
Anthony Faulkner: Growing up in a family of 7 siblings I had very humble beginnings. I always had a heart to help, but not necessary the means. I continue to ask God to allow my mind to process and expand and grow so I can move in a positive direction so that I could help the ones I love. At age 16 in High School, I interviewed and received my first real job at Jc Penneys. I was focused on working and providing for my family. There were so many stepping stones in life and I wanted more. I prayed and ask for direction, for doors to open. Once the doors opened I had to make sure I had completed my due diligence so that I would be able to sustain my new level of growth, both mentally and in life. Learning from trial and error I had to continue to ask God to send me more Guardian Angels to help me see what type of transformation was needed in order to grow in life and have more opportunities to produce more optimal solutions for my loved ones and for myself. The world is my loved ones so I am on a global mission to help our future.
