'Jolene' Will Be the Next Dolly Parton Movie to Air On NBC
Multi-talented singer and songwriter Dolly Parton is following up her autobiographical movie "The Coat of Many Colors" with another movie based on another of her song entitled "Jolene." Just as NBC is behind "Coat of Many Colors," the same TV network will be behind "Jolene."
The announcement came Thursday at a panel for TV critics about the film Coat of Many Colors. "Jolene" is a 1973 Parton-penned song about one woman begging another to not steal her man. John Sacret Young, who was a writer on China Beach and The West Wing, is penning the script. In January, NBC announced a deal with Parton to produce TV movies inspired by her songs, stories and life.
"Coat of Many Colors" revolve around the tight-knit Parton clan as they struggle to overcome devastating tragedy and discover the healing power of love, faith and a raggedy patchwork coat that helped shape Parton into who she is today.
Set in 1955 in the Tennessee Great Smokey Mountains, the movie is described as a faith-based look at the incidents in her and her family's life around the time she was nine-years-old.
The three will play various members of Parton's family. Country music artist Jennifer Nettles will portray as Parton's mother, Avie Lee; Schroder will play Parton's dad, Lee and McRaney will play Grandpa Jake Owens. They join Alyvia Alyn Lind (A Deadly Adoption), who was cast in July to play the beloved country singer herself.
It will air on NBC for the holidays.
