Our Exclusive Interview with Drew Smith: "I Love Great Music, Quality Music, and New/Fresh Idea"
Drew Smith, a singer for 18 years and a rapper for 11, and now the CEO/Founder of The DreamR Enterprise, Dream Red Records, and Drew Robert Collection; brings a refreshing sound to the music industry. Born and raised in the church, Drew Smith always had a desire to spread his thoughts and ideas around the world and was finally given the opportunity to do so when he became a partner in what was formerly known as Heaven's Finest, in 2001. For seven (7) years he and his former partner enjoyed creating music and released a project together. After the many concerts, speaking engagements, and conferences, the partnership ended only to allow the movement known as The DreamR to begin.
Drew Smith started his solo career with nothing but his constant hopes and dreams to change the world with his music. In November of 2011, this singer, song-writer, rapper, and DreamR released his first solo mixtape: "The DreamR Vision 1", a second project: "The DreamR Lucid Dreams" released on itunes, google play etc., a the third project: "The DreamR Vision 2", and finally his latest Co-op project with Artist Doc hero called "American Church". He intends to have his music impact all genres and cultures, all social groups and all ethnic backgrounds. The DreamR movement encourages all those who have visions to never give up on their passion. Drew Smith is currently working on his new EP and hopes that his music and life encourages the hearts and minds of all those who come in contact with him. So when you see him, don't forget to throw your D's up and dream RED!
Hallels: Drew thanks for your time. How did you first feel God's call into the music ministry?
No, thanks for your time! I knew growing up I wanted to be in entertainment. More specifically an actor and singing was just a backup plan just in case it didn't work out. My mother always had me singing somewhere and as I grew older the interest in music grew. So I always knew music was an option but I didn't want to do the same music I heard on the radio and had no idea this Christian Genre was an option for a guy like me. At the age of 13/14 is when I saw my first Christian hip hop concert by Cross Movement and at that moment I knew it was a place for me!
Hallels: Besides your own music, you are also the CEO/founder of DreamR Enterprise. What's the DreamR Enterprise? And what are the goals of this enterprise?
The DreamR Enterprise was birthed one day at work in 2011. I had just finished getting out of a group and was fearful of what was to come since I no longer had someone to depend on. As I was sitting there the Lord gave me the word DreamR clear as day. I thought to myself "why this name?" Soon after I started to recall how much I dream and how God speaks to me through them. To take it a step further the spelling is specific to the meaning. The big R represents redemption which is now my biggest dream for this world!
With saying that The DreamR Enterprise is starting out with entertainment and wants to focus on community driven projects to help build and bring jobs to the market.
Hallels: You mentioned in your bio that you wanted to change he world with your music. How do you plan on doing that?
With building a platform and staying true to my call never compromising my message. I'm a very transparent artist and I love talking about real life issues from the perspective of a believer. We all live life here on this earth and everyone can relate to doing so. My goal is to connect with the heart of deep rooted issues and offer hope, life, and Jesus while doing so. "One concert, interview, etx at a time"
Hallels: Let's talk about your new single "Ima Fly." What's this song about?
Ima Fly is the first song me and a producer by the name of Kevin Mayfield aka Hothandz worked on when we decided to create together. It's a record about resilience, courage, ambition, and the will to carry out your purpose regardless of what seems to be difficult. So this is the record to keep the hearts encouraged to do so.
Hallels: I believe you are also working on your EP, when will it be released? Do you have a title for it yet?
Yes, we don't have an official release date yet, however we are very close to settling on one. The title will be released after we settle on a date of release.
Hallels: Being the CEO/Founder of Dream Red Records, do you intend to release music for other artists too?
Of course, I love great music, quality music, and new/fresh ideas. I would like to see our culture of music grow in creativity and not follow the formula that's most common to use. Why do we conform to the restrictions of music and the formats used? We shouldn't and I don't plan to.
Hallels: For our readers who would like to find out more about you and your music, where can they go?
