Where is Greg Long Now?
Greg Long was a successful solo Christian artist as well as a member of the Christian group Avalon. Starting in the 1990s, Long has had four number-one hits on contemporary Christian charts: "How Long?" (a duet with Margaret Becker) from his first solo album, then "What a Friend" and "Think About Jesus" in 1995 and "Love the Lord" in 1996. Long is also a GMA Dove Award nominee.
His last solo studio album was 2004's "Born Again." So, where is Greg Long now? According to his website, Long and his wife are now worship pastors. "Janna and I are staff worship leaders at Woodlands Church just north of Houston Texas. We left Nashville and moved to Texas in December of 2009 to serve with Pastor Kerry Shook at this amazing church. I thank God for calling us to these beautiful people. www.WC.org."
Long was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He began singing at the age of 2, in his father's revivals. He is married to fellow band member Janna Long and they have three daughters.
Starting his solo career in 1994, Long released "Cross My Heart," the album blends CCM and adult contemporary sounds to create an album that is upbeat, yet also intense and message-oriented. The project serves as a forerunner for Long's following releases, reflecting a signature sound that is also seen on his sophomore album "Days of Grace." Produced by John and Dino Elefante, "Days of Grace" is primarily an album of encouragement. "You'll Get Through This" offers hope in painful experiences, while "Joy," with a pulsing beat and downplayed musical arrangement, speaks of joy even in the midst of life's valleys. Also included is "I Promise You," a song of devotion in marriage.
1998 saw the release of "Jesus Saves." True to the project's title, the album's overriding theme is the mercy of God. "Man of Sorrows," an upbeat, electric guitar-carried song, looks at the crucifixion, while the moderately paced semi-piano ballad "Mercy Said No" speaks of God persistent love. The project also includes "Everything Is Gonna Be Alright" and the album's first radio single, "We Love You Jesus." "Now" was issued in early 2001, which contains the powerful song "Suffciency of Grace."
2004 saw the release of "Born Again," the album presents bold lyrics, great melodies and a fresh sound. It reunites Greg with producer Don Koch (4HIM, NewSong) on four songs, and Koch's presence assures fans of Greg's signature rich pop melodies and strong vocals. Secondly, add producer Mooki Taylor(TobyMac, Stacie Orrico, The Katinas) for four more tunes, and Greg exhibits some R&B flare thathas not been heard on his previous projects.
The album is completed with two cuts produced by Greg and industry A&R veteran, George King (Michael W. Smith, Yolanda Adams, Bob Carlisle).BORN AGAIN reflects the story of grace in the life of one man, Greg Long, as he shares the love relationship with His God. It is a testimony in music. From the first seed planted, to baptism in thefaith, to a time of rededication, to calling on God during difficult times, to the ongoing call to share the Gospel, Greg invites the listener to rediscover the joy of being in love with the Savior.
"I wrote or cowrote nine of the 10 songs on BORN AGAIN-- the most I've ever contributed to an album," Greg explains. "I hope people see my heart in this project and are drawn to the excitement of walking with Jesus."
