Nathan Mark Tells the Story Behind the Making of "You Were There"
Songwriter and worship leader Nathan Mark has just released his new worship album "You Were There." Nathan Mark is the worship pastor at Elim Evangelical Free Church in Puyallup, WA.
Mark has been writing songs since high school but a few years ago he began writing music with Brian Sharpe his brother-in-law. The two of them entered their song, "Far Above All" into the Spirit 105.3 KCMS Local Music Project in 2014. The song ended up winning the entire contest! As a result, at the 2014 Christian Musician Summit - Northwest, Nathan got the privilege of opening for Aaron Shust. The following February, Nathan Mark flew to Nashville to meet with John Mays the Vice President of Centricity Music for mentoring.
Initially, Mark only wanted to record an EP, but the new project ended up being a full-lenth album. He writes: "We have been working hard with Scott Krippayne in the studio and have laid down lead vocals for 8 songs! The guitar player has recorded his tracks and Scott has put all of that together with temporary drum loops and keyboard tracks. Everything is really starting to sound great and we are hoping next week to send everything off to the drummer and the bass player.
Now as you may remember we started out this project with the hope of recording a 5 song EP but after looking at the songs we have Scott decided he would do 7 songs for our original agreed upon price because a few of the songs didn't need full production and could be done more simply. Well, we had such a hard time narrowing down our song list to 7 songs that I had a last minute backer (my dad. he he he) pledge enough money to push us over the edge to be able to do 8 songs!
The awesome thing is that I still have two additional days of studio time from the Spirit 105.3 contest at Shoreline Community College studio. Our plan is hopefully to record at least one, but probably two more additional songs there. I have not been able to get a time that worked with Shoreline's schedule until August 30th. So the good news is that we will hopefully end up with not just an 8 song EP but instead a FULL LENGTH 10 SONG ALBUM!!! The unfortunate thing though is that this will simply take a little more time to put together."
