Bring the DVD of "War Room" Home on Dec. 22
War Room, a 'faith based' movie, which took the top spot at the North American box office over the long Labor Day holiday weekend is coming out on DVD on December 22. This is the fifth film from Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the award-winning creators of Fireproof, Courageous and Facing the Giants, War Room which made its debut Aug. 28 in theaters nation-wide through Sony Pictures Entertainment's TriStar Pictures.
The low-budget film produced by Kendrick Brothers cost 3.5 million dollars to make and grossed 24.7 million dollars in ten days of release. "This is by far the Kendrick brothers' finest work, and I can't believe I get to be a part of it," says John Waller who sings the movie's lead single "Crazy Faith.""Alex and Stephen have been so gracious to bring me along for the ride."
The picture earned $3.875 million on its first day, which is not that much more than what Courageous earned back in 2011. That film opened in September of 2011 and earned a solid $9.1m on 1,161 screens.
The family-friendly movie explores the transformational role prayer plays in the lives of the Jordan family.Tony and Elizabeth Jordan seemingly have it all-great jobs, a beautiful daughter, their dream home. But appearances can be deceiving. In reality, their marriage has become a war zone and their daughter is collateral damage. With guidance from Miss Clara, an older, wiser woman, Elizabeth discovers she can start fighting for her family instead of against them. As the power of prayer and Elizabeth's newly energized faith transform her life, will Tony join the fight and become the man he knows he needs to be? Together, their real enemy doesn't have a prayer.
With a cast featuring director Alex Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer, T.C. Stallings, Beth Moore, and Michael Jr., along with Karen Abercrombie as the unforgettable Miss Clara, WAR ROOM will inspire moviegoers to start fighting their own battles the right way-through prayer.
When the dust is settled on Sunday, the film will end up number two for the weekend with a solid over/under $11 million weekend, with Straight Outta Compton three-peating with around $11.5m (-55%) in its third weekend.
This is Kendrick's fourth religious melodrama since 2006, and his box office results have been rising steadily. Facing the Giants earned $10m (off a $1.3m debut weekend on 441 screens) on a $100k budget in 2006 while the "Kirk Cameron saves his marriage" vehicle Fireproof opened with $6m in 2008 and legged it to $33m on a $500k budget. Courageous, which concerns a group of tight-knight police officers coping with a personal tragedy, earned $34m off of that $9m debut back in 2011 on a $2m budget. And now War Room, which cost $3.5m, seems to be pulling off the same trick.
