Sidewalk Prophets Honors South Carolina Policeman For Honorable Service To Area Homeless Man
Sidewalk Prophets honored Greenville County (South Carolina) deputy Matt Holman this past Friday, February 12, 2016, with a surprise acoustic concert at the Sheriff's office in Greenville, South Carolina. Holman's family, friends, and colleagues gathered for the special event honoring the deputy for his honorable service and compassion to an area homeless man, Robert Morris, following a flood.
The act of Holman giving the homeless man his personal Bible had a profound impact on Morris, who passed away nearly one year ago. Sidewalk Prophet's hit song, "Save My Life," served as an inspiration to Holman's act, and was played during the recent 35th Annual Greenville County Sheriff's Office Awards Ceremony, where Holman was also honored with the Sheriff's Award in recognition of his selfless service. While in the line of duty, Deputy Holman came upon the flooded-out tent of a homeless man, Robert Morris, and stopped to check on the individual. Holman asked Morris what he needed, to which Morris simply replied saying he needed a Bible.
Thinking he had a trunk full of Bibles, Deputy Holman proceeded to his squad car to obtain a Bible for Morris, but all of the Bibles were gone except for his personal Bible, which he lovingly decided to give away. Sidewalk Prophets' lead singer Dave Frey shared the following about Deputy Holman, "It was such an honor to get to meet and perform for Matt and his family. His act of genuine kindness and faith became a catalyst for redemption. Matt took time to show the love of God to someone in need, and I believe that he saved a life that night. He is truly an inspiration and a hero."
