Joey Feek Honored at the ACM Awards

he late Joey Feek was honored at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday. Joey Feek and her husband were the Christian country music duo whose latest release Hymns that Are Important to Us sits at #1 on both Billboard's Christian and country music albums charts. Presenting the best vocal group award, artina McBride and Darius Rucker paid their respects to the late Joey & Rory singer, who died of cancer last month.

"A few weeks ago, we lost a member of our country music family with the passing of Joey Feek," Rucker said. 

McBride adds: "Joey was more than a wonderful singer and an ACM-winning artist along with her husband Rory. She was a beloved mom, daughter, family member and friend." 

With that, Rucker asked the packed audience to join him in a round of applause, and the crowd erupted in a solemn standing ovation. 

"Of all the different ways we could honor Joey, we think that what would mean the most to Joey and her family is just one more time, for all of us, her fans who loved her, to give her a big round of applause," Rucker said. 

While Feek's widower, Rory, wasn't on hand for the awards, his daughter from a former marriage Hopie and friend Julie were in attendance.

 "God bless them and God bless you, Joey," McBride said. 

Joey Martin Feek, age 40, went home to meet her Savior Friday, March 4^th, 2016, around 2:30pm, in her native hometown of Alexandria, IN.  A current resident of Pottsville, TN, with her husband, Rory, Joey was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of her passing. 

Joey had been fighting Stage IV cancer for nine months, surrounded by the love and support of countless family members, friends, loved ones, longtime followers of her music and even strangers who were inspired by her life.  

Joey was known for her beautiful voice, beautiful smile and beautiful marriage partnership with Rory Feek.  Together they shared a life built around a love of faith, family, farming and country music.  Their stories, which ranged from growing vegetables to their blossoming as a country music duo, have impacted countless people through television, radio and performances.  While grateful for numerous accolades and countless career dreams that came true, Joey found the real meaning and joys of life to be one of love for her GOD, love for her home and family, love for planting and growing and love for sharing with everyone she knew.  Her roles as wife and mother are often heralded beyond her celebrity successes.
