Love Displayed On Working with Jesus Culture, Their New Album & Their Heart for Missions

Love Displayed

The West Virginia based Christian duo, Love Displayed, will release their debut CCM album, You're The Only One, on April 22nd. Produced by Ian McIntosh of Jesus Culture, the project features all new songs that were co-written by Love Displayed founding members, Zak and Amy Huffman, and features several Jesus Culture musicians. The first single is the title track and it's currently going for adds at radio and delivers strong lyrics about the power of a Christ relationship.

Love Displayed was founded in 2013, and that same year the Huffmans' released a two song EP, The Light, to give a sampling of their music to an increasing fanbase. Due to the strong response for the project, the couple reached out to producer and Jesus Culture keyboardist, Ian McIntosh, about producing a full record for them. They began recording You're The Only One in 2014 at The Soundhouse in Redding, California.

Hallels:  Thanks so much for your time.  Who is Love Displayed?

Love Displayed is my wife and I, plus our band. We have been involved in leading worship since we were kids. It is truly our passion!

Hallels:  Why did you choose the name Love Displayed?

Love Displayed is such a powerful statement! In our experiences, we have heard a lot of people "talk" about love, but to see love in action or "Love Displayed" is more scarce. Jesus did not just talk about love, but he displayed it on the cross. He displayed love in a scandalous and extravagant way for the world to see. What happened on the cross can get so watered down in our minds, but the truth is, what happened on that cross gave us as Christians the true definition of love. Jesus is Love Displayed in the flesh.

Hallels:  Congratulations on the release of "You're the Only One."  How would you describe your style of music?

Such a great yet challenging question. You know, we have grown up on Hillsong, Bethel and so many other great worship bands. The depths of that music lyrically is just so amazing. We also love music that can be listened to at a party or driving on a road trip. I think our music is a nice combination of the two. The Lord gives us lyrics that we find very meaningful, and we are able to place that to a really fun soundtrack that can be played in the car, on a warm summer day and also at a worship service.

Hallels:  On this record, you got to work with Jesus Culture's Ian McIntosh.  How did you get to work with him?  And what do you think Ian brings to the record that you appreciate?

Ian is truly the man! We sent our EP to him a couple of years ago and when he liked it and accepted our project we were so pumped! Jesus Culture is one of our favorite bands, so to get a peek into their lives and their creative processes was so amazing. Ian really believed in the new album which really changes everything when you are in the studio. He never rushed us or encouraged us to water anything down. He wasn't like some producers who say, "I think this would be more appealing." He actually encouraged us to stand by what the Lord gave us to sing. It was just an awesome experience!

Hallels:  "You're the Only One," the title cut is also your new single.  What's the song about?  Why are you excited about this song?

I would describe this song as the most fun tune on the album. It's the perfect song to just sit back, listen and take a deep breath in. The song basically is about living in a world that can misunderstand us so much. It's about the reality that no matter how close we are to someone they may hurt us at some point, no matter how "in control" we think we are. Things will turn around on a dime and we will suddenly see we are not in control at all! It's a fun but very personal song in which you can just say to the Lord, "Wow, you are the only one who knows." I also love the line which says, you know just what I need when everything is derailing. I tend to say that line often to God.

Hallels: Besides music, you are also active on the Missions front.  Tell us more about "Spirit of Adoption Ministries."

Missions work, our favorite. Feeding the poor, hugging the broken, now that is Love Displayed. Our hearts for missions work began in 2012 when we decided to go with our dear friends Georgian & Winnie Banov of Global Celebration to Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. To see the fervent hopefulness, joy and thankfulness in communities where they didn't know where their next meal was coming from was WRECKING. It was life changing and humbling. Winnie shared with them Psalm 113:7 which says, He lifts the needy from the garbage dumps and sets them with Kings. And they really believe it. The way they desperately cling to every word He says is so amazing.

Amy and I have been business people for many years now and just love being entrepreneurial. To see what poor truly looks like, well it just changed it all. From that time we have given large proceeds, not only from our music sales but also from all of our businesses we are involved in, to our non-profit, Spirit of Adoption Ministries. "SOAM" is dedicated to feeding the poorest of the poor, saving victims from the sex slavery industry and much more.
