Jovonta Patton Talks About His Recent #1 Album & What It Means to be Finally Living
Singer/songwriter Jovonta Patton makes his national debut this week as his third album "Finally Living" (Jovonta Patton Ministries) trailblazes its way onto three coveted Billboard Magazine charts - without the assistance of radio airplay and no established sales history for the artist - for the week ending August 6th. The project opens at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Albums sales chart, No. 12 on the Billboard Christian & Gospel Albums sales chart and No. 21 on the Billboard Independent Albums sales chart.
Q: Jovonta, congratulations on having your latest album debut at #1 on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart. How do you feel about such anachievement?
Thank you so much. God is amazing. I feel like Lebron James when hewon the championship against golden state this year. With all the oddsstack against you. You still come as a winner.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself. How did you first hear God's call to minister for him in music?
I heard the call at a young age. I really got into ministry heavyaround the age of 14 and accepted the call. That was the age I startedleading at my church.
Q: You have released quite a few records before, did you approach the writing and recording of "Finally Living" any different compared toyour previous releases?
I did actually, this record I worked with A1 musicians & producers inthe gospel music industry. I also did not follow a radio trend. I justdid what I heard and went for it.
Q: Who are some of the people you have worked with for this album?
I worked with Daniel Weatherspoon producer for Vashawn Mitchell,Donald Lawrence, Charles Butler & more.Worked with Varo Johnson, drummer for Tasha Cobbs and On the hit songworth by Anthony Brown & Group therapy.
Q: What are some truths you want to impress upon your listeners after hearing this album?
I want people to be liberated into living! Living Does not meantrouble doesn't exist. It just means trouble does not reroute my life.
Q: What's the significance of naming the record "Finally Living"?
I named finally living because those were my exact words after beinga newly wed and having my daughter. Just amazing.
Q: Now that the album's out, what's next on your agenda?
Next on my agenda! Is to stay the charts, work to get a Grammy &stellar nomination.Also release some music videos for the album.
