FUN. New Album Coming in 2014? Singer Nate Ruess Shares The Band is Working on New Songs
Fans of the pop/rock band FUN. can begin to look forward to some new music. FUN. singer Nate Ruess spoke with Rolling Stone Magazine and shared that they're working on their newest album to follow-up to their highly successful Some Nights that released in 2012.
Even with the success of Some Nights, Ruess shares about the record's shortcomings while preparing for the next album. "I look at Some Nights and some of the things that I feel like I did wrong on that, and I look at other albums that I've done in the past as a lyricist and not only want to maintain a certain level but exceed it," the singer explained. "The pain for me in songwriting is always putting lyrics to things. And so hopefully I've got enough firepower. I've definitely had enough s**t go down in the last few years."
When speaking about the process of the new album, Ruess shares, "It's moving. There's an apprehension at first, because I don't want this thing to move too fast, because I want to be able to enjoy being at home. And with this album - and after being on the road for a few years - you can't help but think of how each song is gonna fit. You start thinking about what you're gonna want to play, and what you're gonna want to say."
Ruess shared that he's less interested re-creating that record and more taken by the idea of documenting this very unique point in his life, which, needless to say, is quite different from the last time he sat down to write a Fun. album.
"It's weird to talk about this, but it is interesting when you look at a song like 'Some Nights.' I remember when writing it, the thought was, 'No one's gonna understand this. This isn't gonna happen. And this is the last chance, and then I gotta go get a real job,'" he said. "The first song on this new album is like the opposite of that, lyrically. You know, 'You got what you wished for. What are you wishing for now?'"
No official released date has been set for the new album, but fans can hope that they will have new music by the end of 2014. In 2013, FUN. won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for "We Are Young". They were also a nominee for four other Grammy Awards: Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo or Group Performance (both for "We Are Young") along with Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album (both for Some Nights).
