Tyscot Records Earns Three ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards
Tyscot Records continues to break new ground in its fourth decade of providing the world with life changing gospel music. The Indianapolis-based recording label picked up three ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards last week during the 30th annual gala ceremony that took place at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles.
The big event handed out awards in R&B, Hip Hop and Gospel genres to the composers of songs such as "Needed Me" by Rihanna and "Controlla" by Drake. During the evening, thirteen gospel songs were recognized as the highest‐ranking ASCAP-affiliated songs on the Billboard Magazine Year-End Gospel Airplay Chart for the calendar year 2016.
Songs by Tyscot artists, Anthony Brown & group therAPy, and Casey J won three of the thirteen gospel citations. Brown, a gifted songwriter and producer, as well as, a singer, was recognized for last year's rousing Top Ten hit, "Bless The Lord," and the prior year's No. 1 smash, "Worth." The latter spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Magazine's Gospel Airplay chart. Former elementary school teacher, Casey J, is also a fine songwriter. Tyscot President Bryant Scott and Marquis Boone of MBE Enterprises accepted on Casey J's behalf in her absence. Her tune, "I'm Yours," spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart in 2016.
