"Andy Mineo and Wordsplayed Present Magic & Bird" is the #1 Christian Album This Week
Christian/hip-hop artist Andy Mineo scores his third Top Christian Albums No. 1 as Andy Mineo and Wordsplayed Present Magic & Bird debuts at the pole position this week. The set moved with 11,000 equivalent album units earned in its first week (ending Aug. 10), with 8,000 in traditional sales. Concurrently, the set arrives at No. 3 on Rap Album Sales and No. 23 on Top Rap Albums.
Andy Mineo & Wordsplayed, also now known by their new moniker, Magic & Bird, have been busy drumming up excitement and early success for their latest project. On July 3, the pre-order for Magic & Bird soared into the top spot, claiming the No. 1 position on iTunes' all genres slider. The official music video for "KIDZ", their buzzworthy first single which was filmed at Waffle House ®, has garnered attention from BET Jams, BET Hip Hop, REVOLT and FM, all of which have added the video to their respective playlists. Peaking at #1 on Spotify's Global Viral 50 Chart, the lively track "DUNK CONTEST" also entered Spotify's Viral Top 50 country specific charts in Canada, UK, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Spain, France and Turkey.
Magic & Bird boasts production from BEAM (2 Chainz, Meek Mill), Mineo's labelmate GAWVI (Lecrae, Trip Lee, KB ) and !llmind (J.Cole, Drake, 50 Cent), who also produced Mineo's previous LP Uncomfortable, which became the No. 1 Independent record in the country and delivered a No. 3 and No.10 position on Billboard's Hip Hop and Top 200 album charts, respectively.
Most will agree there's nothing like a good rivalry, especially in hip-hop and sports, and the playful and nostalgic approach of Magic & Bird is not lost throughout the 13-track mixtape interlaced with hilarious interludes. What is clear from the jump is the chemistry between Mineo and Wordsplayed, as they trade bars and toss one another alley-oops on wax. To let Wordsplayed tell it: "The whole project is basically NBA Jam meets Mobb Deep meets Chris Farley" While the lightheartedness is certainly front and center, Mineo and Wordplayed are mindful to give heads something of substance to chew on too, "It's like sports," Mineo explains. "We wanted to keep things fun and competitive but not without insightful moments."
This fall, in support of Magic & Bird, Wordsplayed will join Andy Mineo on the Miner League presents Friends and Family Tour, alongside fellow rappers Social Club Misfits. The 29-city nationwide tour kicks off on September 21 in Nashville, TN and will stop in major cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and more.
