Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl to Host New HBO Series 'Sonic Highways' Coming Fall 2014, Watch Trailer Teaser (VIDEO)
HBO and the Foo Fighters have teamed up to release a new docu-series called "Sonic Highways" premiering this Fall (2014). The news of the series has been circulating recently, but the name "Sonic Highways" was just officially released as well as a short trailer teaser of the experience (watch above). The series follows the Foo Fighters as they travel across the country to record at eight legendary studios, conducting interviews with musicians along the way and exploring the cities' musical roots.
"It all started with the idea of recording at different studios all over the country," says Grohl's voiceover in the trailer. "Doing something to make it new. You can tie all of these people and places together with these sonic highways. This is a musical map of America."
Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, will host and direct the series. He recently spoke with Rolling Stone and revealed more about their new album to be released this Fall and the HBO show. The show will include stops to Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and New York.
Grohl shared, "After making Sound City, I realized that the pairing of music and documentary works well because the stories give substance and depth to the song, which makes for a stronger emotional connection. So I thought, 'I want to do this again, but instead of just walking into a studio and telling its story, I want to travel across America and tell its story. It's basically the history of American music broken down to the cultural roots of each place," Grohl said, describing the as-yet-untitled documentary. "Why did Chicago become a blues capital? Why did country go to Nashville? Why did the first psychedelic band, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, come from Austin? How did the second line rhythm make its way to New Orleans? It's crazy."
"Sonic Highways" is written by Grohl and Mark Monroe, and produced in conjunction with James A. Rota, John Ramsay and Therapy Studios. It will premiere this HBO this fall.
