Summer Movies 2014: 5 Best Movies Recommended to Watch this Season
With a huge selection of blockbusters barging in this summer, there's bound to be much head-scratching when it comes to narrowing down your movie-watching choices. You can't spend that much time inside a cinema during the hotter periods of the year, of course. You'd rather be out, basking in the sun, working on your tan or doing fun activities on the beach. But if you're really a movie buff, here are five of the films that can make your summer extra special. Maleficent If you think you know the story of Sleeping Beauty, well, think again. The film revolves around the antagonist character of Maleficent, portrayed by Angelina Jolie. Aside from seeing the gorgeous actress on the big screen, the movie's special effects and amazing cinematography cannot be missed. Movie-goers will also see a glimpse of Angelina's daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt. Snowpiercer This movie, starring Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, Song Kang-Ho, John Hurt, and Jamie Bell, earned an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and presents a thought-provoking plot that somehow seems to echo political scenarios in different parts of the globe. This film tells the story of a group of human survivors riding on a supertrain "where the poor and the rich are constantly at odds," according to Rotten Tomatoes. The Fault in Our Stars Although this essentially is less of a "cancer patient" movie and is supposed to be more of a "young love story," those who have had a brush with cancer or is close to someone who had will find this film worthy of their time and emotional wrangling. Based on a John Green novel of the same name, the screen adaptation stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort and has already performed impressively at the box office. How to Train Your Dragon 2 Coming on June 13 is the sequel to 2010's "How to Train Your Dragon." This DreamWorks production is anticipated to be a big hit like its predecessor and is anticipated to showcase the "superb animation and easy comedy" that has made the original so successful as noted by The Independent. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Mind-massaging plot, impressive acting, Caesar, sci-fi film effects extravaganza - must watch. Need we say more? Oh yes, it's showing on July 17.
