California Chrome Misses Chance to Win Historic Triple Crown
California Chrome Misses Chance to Win Historic Triple Crown
All the eyes of horse racing fans across the world were fixed on the Belmont Park race track in Elmont, New York this past Saturday, June 7th, to see if California Chrome could become a Triple Crown winner.
In earlier races, California Chrome won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. It was hoped that California Chrome would win the Belmont Stakes and become the first to win the coveted Triple Crown in horse racing since Affirmed won the historic Triple Crown in 1978.
California Chrome is a large, sturdy horse that has been groomed and trained for shorter tracks. His lightning speed and agility have made him one of the finest racing horses on the track. As the Belmont Stakes was approaching, there were some horse racing analysts who were concerned about California Chrome's ability to race on longer distance race tracks. There was speculation that the horse might not have the stamina and endurance to win at a longer distance race track. To the disappointment of many, California Chrome finished 4th in the race, thus fueling renewed conversation about the needed versatility of horses today to win the Triple Crown event.
Even though California Chrome did not enter the history books as a Triple Crown winner this year, this majestically beautiful horse will continue to have a large entourage of enthusiastic admirers who will follow his career. California Chrome no doubt will go down as one of the great racing horses in modern history. All racing fans will have to wait yet again for another horse to have a shot at the elusive Triple Crown.
