Tracy Morgan in Critical Condition After 6 Vehicle Crash: '30 Rock' Actor in Intensive Care
Actor and comedian Tracy Morgan is in critical condition after his limousine bus crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike early Saturday morning, The Associated Press reported.
The limo bus, carrying Morgan and six others, overturned at 1 a.m. near Cranbury Township, according to Sgt. first class Greg Williams of New Jersey State Police. Six vehicles were involved in the pile-up, including two tractor-trailers and an SUV.
Passenger James McNair of Peekskill, New York, was killed in the accident. Three others were left in severe condition, Morgan among them. The actor was taken by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he remains in intensive care.
Williams was unable to disclose any details regarding the circumstances of the accident. He did not believe alcohol to be a factor but said that investigation is pending.
"The limo bus is the only vehicle that overturned," Williams told CNN. "Looks like one of the tractor-trailers may have rear-ended that limo bus, but that's preliminary at this time."
Morgan was on the road for his "Turn It Funny" stand-up comedy show at the time of the accident. His last performance was on Friday night at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware. His next show was scheduled for Saturday night at the Fillmore Charlotte, in North Carolina, but has since been canceled.
The 45-year-old comedian is best known for his roles on "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock." He grew up in Brooklyn, where he struggled to support his four siblings and single mother by performing stand-up comedy in the streets. He has referred to his comedic gifts as "defense mechanism" to help him cope with his life circumstances.
Friends and celebrities online have expressed their shock at the incident.
