Faith Based Sports Film 'Midrange' Releases to DVD, Watch Personal Testimony from NBA Star Steph Curry (VIDEO)
Midrange is a new faith-based sports movie that released June 9th and went to shelves in Walmart June 10th. The film stars Jason Fields, Sean Douglas and Roger Powell Jr., also featuring current and former NBA players including: Alan Houston, Anthony Tolliver, Jerome Williams, Grievis Vasquez, Wayne Simien, and Austin Daye. You can watch a trailer for Midrange and a powerful personal testimony from NBA star Steph Curry above.
Plot: Jason Fields, "Midrange" writer, director and producer, makes his feature debut that is both deeply personal yet universally relatable. Fresh off a stellar collegiate basketball career, aspiring professional basketball star, Damon Sharp (Fields), returns to his hometown in Chicago quickly to discover a more challenging game off the court. His former life and old bad habits abruptly challenge his newfound faith in God. Damon's dreams of playing pro ball hang in the balance while he faces the circling demons of his past, which are being beckoned by his brother Darrin, who's on a fast track to jail.
Devastated when he doesn't make the draft pick, weakness takes root and the downward spiraling ensues. Damon's extended stay at home unveils his mother's severe depression and his brother's growing penchant for trouble despite being a single dad, exposing his young nephew's vulnerability.
An intimate portrait of the two brothers emerges when they are suddenly forced to re-examine their lives, loyalty, love and their own limitations. Ultimately the choices they make reveal their true character when one of them takes a shot in life that will set the course for everyone's life forever.
Former NBA player, Kelenna Azubuike serves as an executive producer on the film and shared during the K-Love Awards weekend about the real struggles of being a Christian in the professional athlete lifestyle saying, "It's tough, but one of the biggest things for me is accountability. I have accountability partners, my brother being one and some friends, and when you can do life with somebody, you can do the Christian walk with somebody and follow Jesus with somebody it makes it a whole lot easier to that your not alone. That's what really helped me."
