Celebrity Chef Kim Stratton Visits "Good Day DC" Promoting New Music & Cooking Skills
When the economy went sour a few years ago, gospel singer Kim Stratton's phone stopped ringing. "Churches weren't calling to book me to sing anymore," she confesses. Her deceased sister came to her in a dream. She was known as the baker in the family. "She said, 'Don't let my recipes die," Stratton recalls. She went out to Bed, Bath & Beyond the next day and bought a cake mixer. She made a pound cake and posted a picture of it on Facebook. She immediately started receiving requests to buy the cake and her Kim Stratton's Kitchen catering business was born. Since then, the word caught on and she's cooked for famous faces ranging from Bishop T.D. Jakes and Rev. Jesse Jackson to Jennifer Hudson and Ginuwine.
This past week, Stratton, who is known for the songs "Favor Ain't Fair" and "Broken," hit the road to the Washington, D.C. and Maryland area to promote her first radio single in seven years, "Unto the Lamb" (Kingdom Records). Stratton hit a half dozen radio stations where she got to interview with Cheryl Jackson (Praise 104.1), Winston Chaney (WYCB 1340 AM), Maurette Brown Clark (Praise 106.1), Tracy Morgan ((WBBP and Rejoice Musical Soul Food) and Pastor Lee Michaels at Heaven 600 AM. Stratton even stopped by the local FOX TV affiliate for a live cooking segment where she made shrimp & grits and peach-apple cobbler on its #1 rated "Good Day DC" program:
"It was an exhausting trip," Stratton says. "But I enjoyed every minute of it and getting to spread the word about my music and my food."
