Mikey Powell Releases New Worship Song "Dancing Shoes"
Mikey Powell has released a brand new worship song "Dancing Shoes." Powell's debut release with Homegrown Worship - is nothing short of spectacular as Bruno Mars meets Rage Against the Machine with sprinklings of Arctic Monkeys in this joyful guitar-fest that comes together with fantastic production from Tom Auton in an explosion of joy and fun.
'It's a frustration of mine that worship music is often not that fun' says Mikey, 'I wanted to write something that was full of joy - but also gave us reason to be joyful. I didn't just want a cool beat and a lyric about dancing.'
Powell's songwriting is thoughtful, poetic, and this first track gives us an insight into his quirky creativity and a flavour of things to come from this young, energetic worship leader and songwriter.
Mikey Powell is a worship leader, songwriter, semi-professional Star Wars expert and curator of nonsense based in Southampton. Currently the Worship Director at New Community Church, he is passionate about authentic, creative musical worship and writing songs that express that in new, exciting and - dare we say it - fun ways.
He has a Masters degree in Composition from the University of Southampton and has led worship on BBC One for their Pentecost Live show. To give a fully balanced picture it's important to also mention that he is completely unable to wrap a fajita correctly and believes that it is physically impossible to floss one's teeth.
