Walking Dead Season 5 preview and spoilers "Terminus"
Season 4 of The Walking Dead produced record ratings for AMC, and speculation for Season 5 (currently shooting in Georgia) is rampant with intrigue and possibilities.
Last season saw the cast split up and forced to make their way in the post zombie apocalypse. This created divergent story lines that intersected in the finale where most were reunited at the safe haven called: Terminus. Shortly after their arrival at Terminus, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and company discovered that Terminus was not quite as advertised; and they were in great peril. The Season 4 finale concluded with the protagonist dodging and veritable plethora of bullets and being locked inside a boxcar.
Meanwhile Carol (Melissa McBride) and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) are currently following the train tracks to Terminus where signs along the way read: "Terminus-those who arrive survive." Most observers expect either Carol/Tyreese or Daryl (Norman Reedus) to spring Rick and the gang from the boxcar of doom. The real intrigue of Season 5 is: what exactly is Terminus and who are its inhabitants? The odds on favorite for the ominous Terminus population, are the cannibals from the comic book.
Critics of the show have bemoaned the whole man vs man plot that turned Season 3 (with the main antagonist being "The Governor") into one big shoot out and reminiscent of a bad episode of The A Team. Fans hope that the show won't devolve into True Blood where seemingly the main or even periphery characters always escape certain death. If The Walking Dead stays with the zombie threat as the main antagonist then it will avoid "jumping the shark" that has led many a show down the primrose path.
Season 5 of Walking Dead is scheduled to return to AMC this October, with 8 episodes airing in the fall and the final 8 set to air in the spring of 2015. No matter the direction the plot takes for Season 5, The Walking Dead should continue to be a ratings bonanza for AMC.
