The Cimorelli Sisters Offer Sisterly Advice with New Book
More than 1 billion views on YouTube, millions of followers, two albums, and six lively sisters with big personalities help readers navigate the tricky issues of living out their faith in today's culture. The Cimorelli Sisters are Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, Lauren, and Dani. In their new book, Believe in You: Big Sister Stories and Advice on Living Your Best Life (October 22, 2019, Thomas Nelson), they share their six unique, very different personalities and experiences. Life may be difficult, confusing, awkward, and scary, but it's a lot better when you have someone to go to for advice and some positive, encouraging words.
Believe in You addresses concerns, including: growing in faith, having the strongest friendships, and dealing with family. Through thousands of messages on social media, hundreds of letters pouring into their fan-mail PO box, and teary-eyed encounters at their meet-and-greets, the sisters have been given a uniquely personal glimpse into the hearts of fans from all over the world.
Q: Thanks for doing this interview with us. Let's start with yourselves: who are the Cimorelli sisters?
Thanks for interviewing us! We are 6 sisters, originally from Northern California. We are from a big family of 11 kids- all from the same parents. Our mom has a Master's degree in music and she taught us to sing in harmony and play the piano when we were all little kids. We were home-schooled our whole lives, and we started our band in 2017 and played little shows around our small town. We had a viral video of us singing Party In The USA in 2009 and since then we have been making covers, originals and other fun videos on our YouTube channel, where we currently have 5 million subscribers and over 1 billion views! We were signed with a major record label for 5 years until 2015, when we left our label to become independent artists. We moved to Nashville and having been making music and videos totally on our the last 4 years!
Q: Congratulations on the release of your new book "Believe In You." Briefly tell us what the book is about.
Thank you so much! Having a published book out is a huge dream come true for us. We started writing our book 3 years ago. The idea actually came from our fans, who are primarily girls in their pre-teens, teens, and college age. They would always message us and ask for our advice on different topics, and we started to see a lot of commonalities in what they would ask. We wanted to write a book of our advice and personal stories on topics like faith, family, friendship, self-confidence, and the future. This is the book we wish we had when we were younger!
Q: What inspired you to write this book?
Not only are we musicians, but we are sisters as well. We all know what it's like to have younger siblings who look up to you, and we've always wanted to be role models in our career and set a positive example. The inspiration for this book really came out of the idea of a big sister who's there for you when you need advice and support; this book is like a big sister you can go to for advice.
Q: What made you want to focus on dating, friendship, faith and money in the book?
We brainstormed what the most common topics young women face are and compiled a list for the book. As a young woman, you're making big decisions about your future and your faith, and you're also navigating your family relationships and friendships. We also have chapters on money and career as those are two things that every person will be dealing with as they grow up, so we wanted to share a bit of what we've learned from starting our own business when we were all still teenagers and pre-teens.
Q: You are currently touring, tell us more about your tour.
This is our seventh tour! We have toured all over the U.S. many times, and we've also toured Europe twice and South America. Our mission with our touring is to connect with our fans and share our message with them. We want them to feel empowered, inspired and hopeful by the time they leave the show. Our shows have moments that are fun and energetic, as well as emotional and vulnerable, and inspiring and uplifting.
Q: How has touring the world made you closer as sisters?
Touring is such a unique experience. We've met thousands of people all over the world, and we've experienced so many different cultures together for the first time. We have shared such a rare experience together and I think that's bonded us in such a strong way.
Q: What are some of the struggles you personally faced that have helped you relate to your followers?
All of us have struggled with depression and/or anxiety in the past, and most of us still struggle with it to this day. We have gone through a lot of the things our fans have messaged us about- body image and self-confidence struggles, inner-darkness, family problems, friendship drama, struggles with identity and feeling alone. We realized through reading so many messages from our fans that a lot of people feel alone in their struggles, but the truth is that they're not.
Q: What words of encouragement do you have for some of our readers battling with loneliness and pain?
You are NOT alone. The thing about loneliness and pain is that they can be deeply isolating. You may feel afraid that you are going to "burden" those around you with your pain, but that's simply not true. You are not a burden. If you really think about it, you most likely know at least one "safe" person, someone you can open up to who you don't think will judge you. I encourage you to reach out and tell someone what you're going through. You shouldn't have to suffer alone! Also, God is there with you and He loves you! You can always share your struggles with Him. And when you feel enough strength, I highly recommend going to therapy. My sisters and I have all gone to therapy and seen really amazing results! You are not alone, and you can get through this!
