Kanye West's Sunday Service Choir Debuts on Top Gospel Albums With 'Jesus Is Born'
Released on Christmas day, Kanye West's second Gospel project, Jesus Is Born enters Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart (dated Jan. 4, 2020) at No. 2. The album is barred from the No.1 position by West's recently released Jesus is King. The new album sold 6,000 album-equivalent units, 3,000 of which came from pure album sales.
Jesus is Born is credited to West's choir, the Sunday Service choir. This isn't a West album per se, as he doesn't rap at all on the project, for which he serves as the orchestrator bringing his Sunday Service sermon to life via the album format. West's name isn't mentioned in the artist section for the release, and the set wasn't released under his typical G.O.O.D. Music imprint.
Jesus is Born, features 19 gospel songs performed by Kanye West's choir and band. West serves as the executive producer. West's group, Sunday Service Choir, recorded the album in their name. The album features original songs such as "Revelations 19:1," "Balm In Gilead," and "Satan, We're Gonna Tear Your Kingdom Down".
