Fifty Shades of Grey: Movie Spoilers and Release Date
The film adaptation of the best-selling E.L. James erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" will hit the theater screens by February 13, 2015, in time for Valentine's Day. Yet, according to sources cited by Entertainmentwise, "Universal is so convinced of box office success that they're already forging ahead with the sequel." The first movie is reportedly expected to easily make much more than enough to cover its $40 million budget.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" is the first in a trilogy of books by E.L. James, with the second entitled "Fifty Shades Darker" and the third "Fifty Shades Freed," which all explore the complicated relationship between Anastacia Steele, a young woman who's just about to graduate from college, and Christian Grey, an intriguing, charming billionaire with a kinky fetish for rough sex.
"Fifty Shades of Grey," the movie, wrapped up production early this year. It stars Dakota Johnson as "Anastasia" and Jamie Dorian as "Christian Grey." It was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson based on a screenplay written by Kelly Marcel with Patrick Marber and Mark Bomback.
There will be two versions of the movie - one, a "Rated-R," for the mainstream audience, and another, an "NC-17," for the die-hard fans of the explicit erotic novel.
Said producer Dana Brunetti in a talk with reporters, "What we're kind of hearing from the fans is they want it dirty...they want it as close as possible (to the book)...I always thought it would be really cool if we released the 'R' version, and then we had an 'NC-17' version that we released a few weeks later. Everybody could go and enjoy the 'R' version, and then if they really wanted to see it again and get a little bit more gritty with it then we have that 'NC-17' version out there as well. That is my idea, but the fans and the studio will benefit from the double dip. We do not want this film to be seen as mommy porn - we want to keep it elevated, but also give the fans what they want."
