Jonathan Veira Releases "The Hymns Project 2: Praise My Soul"
Praise My Soul continues the highly popular 'The Hymns Project' series, and wonderfully interprets twelve hymns and spirituals with six new tunes and six originals to stir your heart and revive your spirit.
Singing and performing is something Jonathan Veira feels passionate about, which is no surprise considering he is an experienced opera singer who has performed across the globe for many years in a wide variety of roles. He is also a much loved story-teller and entertainer, evidenced by the fact that his recent Facebook Live concerts have attracted over 7,000 listeners each time.
Opener 'We Rest On You', set to the striking tune known as 'Finlandia', is perfect soundtrack material, and the joy injected into Welsh Revival hymn 'Here Is Love' with banjo, accordion and blues harmonica creating a country-gospel fusion, is infectious.
'Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah', an iconic hymn adopted by stadiums across the world, is largely unaltered, stripped back and beautifully simple; 'Just A Closer Walk' swarms with lush strings and an extremely cool vibe; and title track 'Praise My Soul The King Of Heaven' is treated to a wonderful new melody. Other classics include 'Make Me A Channel Of Your Peace', 'The Old Rugged Cross' and an old spiritual, 'Swing Down, Chariot'.
The combination of Jonathan's distinctive voice, ingenious arrangements and stirring musical dynamics, make this a superb work of art.
The companion songbook contains full music scores, plus song notes from Jonathan which provide a revealing insight into the selection of the songs and the new melodies behind some of them.
