BBC Show "Orphan Black" and Star Tatiana Maslany Snubbed in This Year's Emmy Nominations
Tatiana Maslany, star of BBC's hit show "Orphan Black," was passed up yet again in this year's Emmy nominations. Fans of the show were livid that both the talented star and the show itself were snubbed for the second year in a row.
"Orphan Black" deals with clones, conspiracy, kidnapping...you name it, this show has it. Maslany herself plays nearly a dozen characters on the show, assuming a different and distinct name and personality for each one. In any given episode, Maslany will shift characters too many times to count, each one more brilliant than the next. It seemed impossible that "Orphan Black" would be overlooked in this year's Emmy noms, but early on Thursday morning when the list of award nominees was released, fans made their disgust known on all possible forms of social media.
The show's official Twitter account did not let the snub slide. Soon after the list was posted, the account posted this tweet: "Next year, #CloneClub. #EmmyforMaslany." Maslany was considered a shoo-in to be nominated in the outstanding drama actress category, alongside others such as Kerry Washington for "Scandal" and Robin Wright for "House of Cards."
The show followed up with several other humorous tweets, including this one that positively bursts with affection, "Proud of #TatianaMaslany and the entire #OrphanBlack family. Thanks for all the love #CloneClub." By 9 am on Thursday, Maslany was a trending topic worldwide.
Although Maslany and "Orphan Black" were passed over by the Emmys, Maslany was honored earlier this year with her first Golden Globe nomination and her second Critic's Choice TV Award. "Orphan Black" will begin its third successful season in the spring of 2015.
