Renowned Hand Surgeon and Serial Entrepreneur Dr. Steven Topper Named Chief Operating Officer of Promise Keepers
Renowned hand surgeon and serial entrepreneur Dr. Steve Topper has been named the chief operating officer of Promise Keepers (PK). Founded in 1990 by former University of Colorado football coach Bill McCartney, PK was the largest ministry to men in the history of the church. Today, PK is calling men back to courageous and bold servant-leadership by sparking a movement that will mobilize millions of men to follow Christ into today's broken world as changemakers for their families, churches and communities.
Dr. Steven Topper is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, School of Medicine. Topper then served as chief medical officer, hyperbaric medicine division, at the School of Aerospace Medicine. He went on to complete an orthopaedic surgery residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center, followed by a hand and microsurgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.
After his service to our country, Dr. Topper served as chief of hand surgery, orthopeadic surgery residency program director, hand surgery fellowship co-director and congenital hand surgery consultant (Portland Shriner's Hospital) at Oregon Health Sciences University. He founded the Colorado Hand Center in Colorado Springs in 2001, and the Surgery Center at Kissing Camels in Colorado Springs in 2009, which has grown to 16 Surgeons, 45 employees and $16 million in annual revenue.
Dr. Topper is active in the community, serving as an elder in his church and a board member for several local businesses as well as on national and state medical society boards. He has been married to Lora Beth for 30 years and has four children.
Vance Day, president of Promise Keepers welcomed the appointment:
"Steven Topper is a man after God's own heart. He has been involved with Promise Keepers almost from the very start. He served as a Promise Keepers Ambassador in the 1990s. He was present for some of the most significant events in PK's history, including the 1993 conference at the University of Colorado football stadium where, on the final evening, 50,000 men raised candles to heaven and committed to stand in the gap through prayer. His organizational prowess, integrity and spiritual passion are exactly what we need."
Ken Harrison, CEO of Promise Keepers, said:
"Dr. Steven Topper has a passion for excellence and a knack for empowering individuals and organizations to be the very best they can be. Whether it's teaching young surgeons, developing novel surgical approaches, or founding and then successfully leading financially successful and high-quality surgical centers, Steve strives for and creates excellence in everything he does. In this critical hour for the men of our nation, Steve is the right man at the right moment with the right mission."
