Michael Youssef’s New Book, ‘Treasure That Lasts,’ Encourages Readers to Keep Eternity in View
Dr. Michael Youssef, CEO and president of Leading The Way, will release his newest book, Treasure That Lasts: Trading Privilege, Pleasure, and Power for What Really Matters, on Sept. 15. Through a study of the life of Moses, readers are encouraged to devote their lives to glorifying God rather than to the pursuit of worldly pleasures.
"A global pandemic, social unrest, unemployment, food supply shortages and social unrest have forced us to evaluate what matters most in our lives," said Youssef. "Moses's faith called to him to give up the world's crown-immediate, temporal things-for the eternal crown. Treasure that Lasts reminds us of what really matters and how we ought to live."
Treasure That Lasts offers readers practical insights into faith and obedience, living sacrificially, moving forward in faith, overcoming fear, trusting God and taking responsibility for one's calling. At the end of each chapter, reflection questions prompt readers to meditate on what they have learned and to engage in self-examination.
In an excerpt from Chapter One-Complete Surrender, Youssef writes:
"By faith, Moses gave up the world's gold for God's glory. Does this mean God calls every Christian to a life of hardship and poverty? No, he does not. What God asks of you may not be what he asks of me or of someone else. But each of us has some form of gold in our lives, and that gold tempts us to settle for less than God's glory in our lives."
Treasure That Lasts is published by Baker Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group, and will be offered in hardcover, paperback, Kindle and NOOK book formats wherever books are sold. For a gift of any amount to Leading The Way, donors can receive a free copy of the book.
"We learn from Hebrews 11:25-26 that Moses chose obedience to God over the treasures of this world, because he was 'looking ahead to his reward,'" said Youssef. "Like Moses, we also must choose: will we live for the world's gold-privilege, pleasure and power-or for God's glory?
Dr. Youssef is currently hosting a companion series to the book on Leading The Way's daily radio program. The companion series will air on television beginning October 4.
