Zachary Ray Partners with Brooklyn Tabernacle Alum Durell Comedy for New Version of "Rebel Hearts"
Zachary Ray has released a new version of his latest single, "Rebel Hearts," which features Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir alumnus Durell Comedy. The single is being released today to digital outlets, including iTunes and Spotify.
""Every once and a while I come across a singer and think I'd love to collaborate with that artist," Ray says. "The first time I heard Durell sing was when he was leading a song with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. It's a huge honor to be collaborating with him on this version of 'Rebel Hearts.' He brings so much to this song."
"Rebel Hearts" is a follow up to Ray's popular song, "Eyes On You," which debuted at No. 1 at CRC Weekly, hit No. 2 on CRC Monthly and ranked No. 3 spot on CRC Quarterly. Ray, Matt Sequeira and Nathan Walters wrote the song, with Walters, a member of the popular band Plus One, also serving as producer.
Comedy, who was a singer and soloist with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir for 10 years, was featured on the choir albums, "Love Lead the Way" and "I Am Reminded." A highlight of his tenure with the choir was singing at the second presidential inauguration ceremony of Barack Obama. Comedy also had a career as a professional dancer, classically trained in both ballet and modern dance. He retired from his dance performance career in 2019.
Ray developed a passion for music as a young boy, first singing in his dad's church. He then pursued the passion at Berklee College of Music, where he studied vocal performance and music business.
Ray has been using the gift of music to teach and train aspiring musicians for more than 12 years. During the past decade, he has lived in India where he teaches at Calcutta School of Music. He also started a company, Chaitown Creatives, where he teaches and trains young musicians and vocalists. Ray and his wife, who he met while working in India, have two young children.
Ray has returned to America for a season to write and record his music. Writing from a place of candor, Ray's music is about his journey, songs about heartache, doubt, deep love and healing, but, most of all, songs about seasons of hope, comfort, peace and confidence that keeps him going.
Ray is represented for management by McLaughlin Music Group International, Inc.
