CLINE Unveils How the Trio Was Formed, the Highlights of their EP, Songwriting and More
CLINE has just released their brand new worship EP Acoustic EP: Volume One. The trio comprises of Garrett Cline, his wife Jacquelyn, and his brother, Darrick. The EP is preceded by two singles: "Anchor" and "Refuge."
The EP was birthed during the COVID-19 pademic where the three band members lost their jobs. It was during this time when God opened the door for the trio. They started making a record with the help of songwriter and producer Curt Gibbs. "Refuge" was the first song they wrote together during the pandemic.
Q: Garrett, thanks for doing this interview with us. I have read that CLINE was formed during the pandemic, what were you doing before the pandemic?
Yes, we started working on new music during the pandemic, but we're a family band so we've been doing music together for a really long time. Prior to March 2020, Darrick and I have been on the road with Curb Country artist Dylan Scott since 2014. It's been a really incredible journey growing with Dylan and we are touring with Dylan again this summer and fall on the Luke Bryan Tour.
Q: How did the pandemic lead to formation of CLINE?
We've always had a passion for worship music and even through working with Dylan we've served our church and led worship at camps, DNOW's, church events, etc. So when the pandemic hit, we had the opportunity to really focus on writing and recording new music, and through some great relationships with people like producer Curt Gibbs, we were able to get the ball rolling and we're so excited to be able to write songs for our local body and for the global church as well.
Q: How would you describe your music and sound? Which artists would you say influenced your music the most?
It's hard to say, we've been so influenced by so many different people, artists, bands, etc. So we may not really sound like many of our true influences. We just hope that our music, however people categorize it, will help people connect with Jesus and see Him more clearly.
Q: What were some of the highlights when you were making your EP?
The highlight was no doubt the people we got to write and record with. Namely Curt Gibbs, who produces us and co-writes with us quite a bit, as well as Chandler Baldwin (member of the band LANCO), who wrote Wind and Waves, as well as our pastor and friend Jamie Ward, who co-wrote our first release "Anchor". Working with Curt has been a dream come true. He gets us and we just seem to really gel together.
Q: Can you give us an example of how one of the songs on your new record have helped during this difficult time?
Absolutely. The project in general has been healing for us. The song Refuge was the first song we wrote during the pandemic. And to just have that imagery that God is protecting us, "our constant refuge" as the lyrics say, is so freeing and comforting. It's something I think we needed to hear and to sing.
Q: What do you have planned for in the near future? Will be treated with more new music?
We are so excited about what's coming next. We have a song coming out with our friend Mo Pitney called "Worthy One." We've been leading it at our home church and can't wait to share it with the world. After that we plan on releasing several more songs this year that are in the works.
Q: How do you wish your songs would impact the lives of your listeners and God's kingdom?
We've always just wanted to help provide the soundcheck for peoples lives. We hope we can write and record songs that the Church can sing on Sunday morning together, as well as songs that really serve people on Monday morning on their commute to work. Our desire is to just help people see Jesus more clearly and to sing songs that help all of us love Him more.
Thank you for reaching out to us!We appreciate you and your ministry and how you help people discover new music.
