Big Daddy Weave's Jay Weaver Passes Away
Big Daddy Weave's bass player Jay Weaver passes away after battling COVID and several health issues on January 2, 2022. Over the weekend, the band asked their fans to pray for Jay after he was hospitalised for contracting COVID.
"Jay Weaver went on to be with Jesus today. He was a dear friend to our team and an amazing partner in ministry," Tim Taber of Transparent Productions shared. "He taught us about the power of prayer, the belief that Jesus travels himself to us in miraculous ways. Jay invited us into what God was doing. We all felt his care and love for us. Jay Weaver was the real deal. We are so honored to have been able to serve alongside him for so many years. He is already missed, and he will always be."
Yesterday, the band was asking for fans to pray for Jay on social media, "Friends, would you please pray for Jay, his wife Emily and their children? Jay has been in the hospital for five days fighting a tough battle against Covid. Would you pray with us for complete healing for Jay and for peace for his family? We pray in the name of Jesus that it be so."
Jay's wife Emily also requested for prayers. "I am asking you all to pray for Jay. He has been in the hospital since Tuesday. He is fighting so hard. I can see it on him as I look through the window of his door. Yes, he has the awful virus. I just want my best friend/everything to get better."
Big Daddy Weave is one of Christian music's most beloved artists. A mainstay at radio, the band has achieved multiple No. 1 singles, including "Alive," "Love Come To Life," "Redeemed," "The Only Name (Yours Will Be)," "Overwhelmed" and "My Story." RIAA Platinum-certified "Redeemed" became an anthem of unprecedented impact when it spent 11 weeks at No. 1, was dubbed "Song of the Year" at the first annual K-LOVE Fan Awards, and earned Dove Award and Billboard Music Award nominations. Their follow-up hit, "The Lion and The Lamb," has become one of the genre's most-streamed songs. The band's song catalog has an astounding 285 million career on-demand streams.
Big Daddy Weave members are Mike Weaver (lead vocals, guitar), Jay Weaver (bass, vocals), Jeremy Redmon (guitar, vocals), Joe Shirk (saxophone, keys, vocals), and Brian Beihl (drums). The band has released nine full-length projects. They have amassed more than one million units in album sales and have received numerous honors, including a Dove Award, ASCAP and BMI Awards, and the prestigious Rich Mullins Artist Impact Award, among others.
